Design Notes - My idea for this inaugural car for the 2073 season was yet another attempt to make the 'perfect car' which means (1) full internal safety equipment (roll-cage, safety seat, component armor, fire extinguishers) (2) highest possible handling class (so radials, spoiler, active suspension), and since there was only room for one weapon, that is a Vulcan (I'm addicted; I can stop at any time, I swear).

To be perfect, I needed to ignore cost in order to maximize utility. Not sure if it will survive full combat playtesting, but I feel comfortable I was able to meet my goals. Picture is of a Porsche 911 GT3 2009 found in public domain.

Name Notes - From the Wiki, phosphorus is "a chemical element with the symbol P and atomic number 15... [and] is never found as a free element on Earth. ... White phosphorus emits a faint glow when exposed to oxygen – hence the name, taken from Greek mythology, Φωσφόρος meaning 'light-bearer' (Latin Lucifer), referring to the "Morning Star", the planet Venus."

The main entry is trying to keep the Div30ness. The first option is to upgrade everything to crazy levels, the second is to moderate things to Div60 (why 60? a hunch). Not sure why a pickup is best for this weaponry, possibly for the armor, but on another hunch I decided to test it as a midsized and it may be a better car (more component armor for one thing,  and cheaper!)

Name Notes - This is the sound a laser makes. Ugh.  It's from my earliest cars, because those had the stupidest names.

Omega 60 - Div60 Pickup (Retool)

As stated here, I wanted to update the cars from the AADA Car Guide vol. 3 (see first attempt here).  Even with my untrained eye, I knew the designs were problematic.  But that was just about the *ideas* behind the car.  Since then, I've read that every design is actually against the rules.  Here's another example:

Original (as Claimed in the Book):  Camper, X-Hvy. Ch., Heavy Sus., 450 cid IC (VP), 15-gal. Duelling tank, 6 Plasticore Tires, driver, MFR (B) 2 AP MRs (F) 4 FCD (2U.1R, 1L) 2TLs (1F, 1B), ramplate, Spoiler (no airdam), Safety seat, 3 Links (FCD R-FCD L. MFR-MRs. 2 U FCDs), HRTC. LGL (8 rockets), HD brakes, ABS. Overdrive, No-paint windshield, 5 Blow-through concealments (MRs. TLs. and MFR), 4 fake WG/WH, 169 pts FP plastic armor: F65 (Ram) R30 L30 B30 T6 U8; HC: 2 (3), Acc 20, Top 132.5, 7,797 lbs, $59,449

Problems:  From a design perspective: A ramcar with HC 2?  Medium Rockets, in a pickup?  No wheelguards?? Why not put 1 TL in a zero space turret?  Who needs the BTC?  Top and U armor is laughable for div60.

But from a factual perspective, according to my calculations,  the car is 255 lbs overweight, does not have enough gas (it needs a 16 gal tank, which adds 16 lbs and 1 space).  It's total weight is 8055 lbs, $58,943.  It also has 1 space left (maybe for the tank?  I added it).  To make it legal without changing the whole essence, you'd need to take away 20 pts armor. That's leave: 7791 lbs, $57,808.  Put another way:
Camper, X-Hvy. Ch., Heavy Sus., 450 cid IC (VP), 16-gal. Duelling tank, 6 Plasticore Tires, driver, MFR (B) 2 AP MRs (F) 4 FCD (2U.1R, 1L) 2TLs (1F, 1B), ramplate, Spoiler (no airdam), Safety seat, 3 Links (FCD R-FCD L. MFR-MRs. 2 U FCDs), HRTC. LGL (8 rockets), HD brakes, ABS. Overdrive, No-paint windshield, 5 Blow-through concealments (MRs. TLs. and MFR), 4 fake WG/WH, 149 pts FP plastic armor: F65 (Ram) R25 L25 B20 T6 U8; HC: 2, Acc 20, Top 132.5, 7791 lbs, $57,808

And this is without redesigning this turkey.  Here's a set of attempted updates:

First Attempt:  Camper, X-Hvy. Ch., Heavy Sus., 300 cid IC (Blue/VP/Spr), 10-gal. Duelling tank, 6 Plasticore Tires, driver, MFR (B) 2 AP MRs (F) 4 FCD (2U.1R, 1L) 2TLs (1F, 1B), ramplate, Spoiler & Airdam, Safety seat, 3 Links (FCD R-FCD L. MFR-MRs. 2 U FCDs), HRTC. LGL (8 rockets), HD brakes, ABS. Overdrive, No-paint windshield, 5 Blow-through concealments (MRs. TLs. and MFR), 4 fake WG/WH, 9 pts LRFP Component Armor each around (a) driver, (b) engine (c) gas tank; 157 pts FP plastic armor: F45 (Ram) R30, L30. B30, T7, U15 HC: 2 (3), Acc 20, Top 112.5 (overdrive 132.5), 7,800 lbs, $61,623

  • First Attempt Notes: Originally, I changed the 2 TLs to 1 in a zero-space turret. Except that the original needed to have idiotic blow-thru-concealment! So what would be better: (1) a zero-space pop-up turret for 1 TL (my first fix) but this is 1 more space, 100 more pounds than just 2 TL!  (2) a zero-space turret with a fake turret on top.  But that is also an unnecssary 50 lbs! so (3) I just kept the 2 stupid lasers, and used the space I saved by shrinking the engine on a spliff-load of component armor.

Second Attempt: Pickup , Heavy. Ch., Heavy Sus., 300 cid IC (Tubes/Blue/VP), 10-gal. Duelling tank, 4 Plasticore Tires, driver, MFR (B) 2 AP MRs (F) 4 FCD (2U.1R, 1L) 2TLs (1F, 1B), ramplate, active suspension, Spoiler & Airdam, Safety seat, 3 Links (FCD R-FCD L. MFR-MRs. 2 U FCDs), HRTC. LGL (8 rockets), HD brakes, ABS. Overdrive, No-paint windshield, 5 Blow-through concealments (MRs. TLs. and MFR), 39 points FP WG/WH; 195 pts FP plastic armor: F65 (Ram) R35, L35, B35, T10, U15; HC: 3 (4), Acc 15, Top 105 (overdrive 125), 7,148.5 lbs, $59,530

  • Second Attempt Notes: After making the first version, I realized that after shrinking the engine to a manageable size, I had a lot of room left over.  While I love Component Armor, I thought if I reduced this to a regular pickup, there's be more regular armor.  When I did that, I needed to toss the supercharger, and then I had a HUGE amount of weight left over.  Even after raising the ramplate back to 65, and adding active suspension and full wheelguards, I  had so much weight left over that I didn't think I could make the div60 cutoff.  So I made the chassis Heavy - which not only changed the cost, but allowed me to drop 2 tires.

Third Attempt: Pickup , Extra Heavy Chassis, Heavy Sus., 300 cid IC (Tubes/Blue/VP), 10-gal. Duelling tank, 6 Steelbelted-Radial-FP Solid Tires, driver, MFR (B) 2 AP MRs (F) 4 FCD (2U.1R, 1L) 2TLs (1F, 1B), ramplate, active suspension, Spoiler & Airdam, Safety seat, 3 Links (FCD R-FCD L. MFR-MRs. 2 U FCDs), HRTC. LGL (8 rockets), HD brakes, ABS. Overdrive, No-paint windshield, 5 Blow-through concealments (MRs. TLs. and MFR), 38 points FP WG/WH; 111 pts composite Armor (36 LR Metal/75 reg Plastic armor): F13/10 (Ram) R8/13, L8/13, B7/13, T0/10, U0/16; HC: 4 (5), Acc. 15, Top 100 (overdrive 120), 7,799.5 lbs, $59,997.75

  • Third Attempt Notes:  Since I had so much weight left over in the second attempt, I decided to see what metal armor would allow with an extra-heavy chassis, especially if it allowed me to change tires to the best available. I dropped the plastic FP armor to save some money, especially as the tires were FP.

That's all I'm willing to polish this turkey.

I see no real reason to use the big engine option now that I've done the calculations.  And the Div35 version may not be half bad.

Name Notes - This is part of the Amber series.  Benedict is the strongest one of the brothers, so I wanted a very strong car.

Design Notes -  This started as a simple idea for how to get 3 internal smartlinked pulse lasers (3x3d+3), for an average of 40 points of damage on a successful hit, with that on a 4 or above.  I wanted internal to avoid the EWP problem, but the option is above (EWP weigh a lot!).

Name Notes -  Surtur is a moon of Saturn and another Norse God, as seen in this Dungeon & Dragon's pic:

Design Notes - This was in my draft pile entitled "decent van," and that ain't wrong.  This has my Styx Laser Paint Array (see here), which works well for vans.  Rockets are made for vans as well.  I just noticed that with HTM I have 10 acceleration with a top speed of 95.  Just keep that mysterious gamebreaking tech on from the start, baby!

Name Notes - Atlas is one of the moons of Saturn, and a strong dude from Greek mythology.

Original Configuration Option - Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Design Notes -Originally: Luxury, C/A Frame, Xhvy Ch., Hvy.-Active Sus, Large PP (PC/SC), driver & gunner, 4 SD-FP-Steel-Radial tires, AC front (10/incen), VMG in turret (20/incen), OG (10/reg) back, IFE, 2 Hires. Comp., HD-Antilock brakes; no-paint windshield, 10 pts. FP-CA around crew, 2 10 pt. FP WG/WH front/back, blended BA & FP suit for crew; 185 pts. Plastic armor: F35 B30 R40 L40 T20 U20; Acc. 5, Top 92.5, HC 5, 6596 lbs., $69,025

The main design plan was to get rid of the C/A frame, and to follow consensus that the AC is a terrible weapon in CW (and despite my heart's direction - for I know and feel that the AC should be WAY BETTER).  I also realized that gas engines are a must for the upper price divisions - same power, but lighter weight.  Yet since I haven't playtested, I have no idea if the fire problems are too prohibitive.

Name Notes - See picture.

Designer Notes - Part of both my new 'gas' phase and everyone's "lets put linked ATG(APFSDS) into every car" phase. And I felt, if I'm going to have that weaponry, I should get the best targeting possible, hence the cyberlink. I'm not sure if these are any good - the armor is a bit light - but I think it's nasty enough for the name (and my likeness).

The name is from my favorite Watchman.

Dr. Manhattan 2057 - Div60 Pickup

Pickup, Xhvy Ch, Hvy-Active Suspension, Sport PP (PC), 6 Solid (FP/Radial) tires, driver, 2 linked HMG (10/HD) in turret, 2 linked HMG (10/HD or 20/reg) front, smartlink, 4 Oil/Smoke Dischargers, 3 Ice Dischargers, 4 bumper triggers, Hi-Res Comp., HD-ABS brakes, HD shocks, safety seat, 2 10 pt. FP WG & 2 5 pt WH back & 2 6 pt FP WH front; 10 pts FP CA around driver, driver has BA & PFE; 180 pts FP Plastic Armor F35 B35 R40 L40 T15 U15; Acc. 5, Top 102.5, HC 4, 7798 lbs., $59,985

Dueling tank (next to IC), add 2 HMG (10/HD) front (all 4 front HMG linked), remove 1 SkD, all WG & WH, add CA to the engine & gas tank, remove 4 pts armor, add FP suit to driver gear; Acc. 10, Top 60, 7799 lbs, $67,119

  • 2057 Option - Pickup, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Sport PP (PC & SC), 6 Solid Radial tires, driver, 2 linked HMG (10/HD) in turret, 2 linked HMG (10/HD) front, smartlink, 1 bumper trigger front, IFE, active suspension, Hi-Res Comp., HD-ABS brakes, HD shocks, safety seat, 2 10 pt. FP WG & 2 5 pt WH back & 2 6 pt FP WH front; 175 pts FP Plastic Armor F32 B32 R40 L40 T16 U15; Acc. 5, Top 110, HC 4, 7797 lbs., $54,060

Design Notes - Another variation on the HMG/HD cheat theme. The gas option, with 6 HMGs total, is more of a concept vehicle but I'd like to playtest it out.

The name Dr. Manhattan is continuing the Watchmen theme started with Rorschach.

Nov 26, 2013 Update:  I added the 2057 option and a better car icon.

Ganymede 2037 - Div60 Camper (Galaxy, Combat, Obsolete)

Updated here.
Camper, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 SD tires rear, 2 PRR front, active suspension, AC with mag in turret, 2 GG (R, L), MG with HD ammo rear, bumper triggers on all 4 sides, panic blast link to 4 weapons, 6 smoke dischargers, IBA for driver, Hi-res computer, 4 10 pt WG; 122 pts. FP armor: F40, R30, L30, B30, T6, U20 {armor # are off, above is 156}; Acc. 5, HC 3, 7797 lbs., $59,280
  • Combat record: Appears to have been in combat; front armor all chewed up.
Design Notes: Gads - 4 weapons and no gunner! Gauss guns just hangin' out the sides. If I hadn't been stupid enough to take this into combat, I'd have just crumpled up the sheet; but combat records are like watching game films.

This is obsolete because we now need radials on all 4 wheels (and there are more than just PR-radials). A better design would be to remove mag from AC and MG, add gunner; move GG front with link, and add another computer.

Updated Nov 15, 2013

Name Notes: Ganymede is "a satellite of Jupiter and the largest moon in the Solar System. It is the seventh moon and third Galilean satellite outward from Jupiter."

Bonodell - Div60 (65) Pickup

Updated Here.
Pickup, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 6 SD tires, 2 linked GG front, cyberlink, no-paint windshield, 281 pts. FP armor: F70, R60, L60, B50, T20, U21; Acc. 5, HC 2; 7791 lbs., $59,564

Bonodell 2 Option - remove 33 pts. Armor, add 60 pt. ramplate & bumper trigger, F60 L50 R50 B50 T19 U19, driver with IBA, $62,122

Combat Record 1 (Bonodell 1): shots: 2 each; 20 hits to front, 18 top, 6 left, 4 right, 18 bottom; TIRES: FL 12 hits, ML (Middle Left) 4, BL 8,  FR 10 hits, MR 6, BR 6; PP 3 hits, Driver 3 hits (ooooh)

Combat Record 2 (Bonodell 2): 50 hits to front, 3 shots each for GG

Design Notes - Finally, the pickups. My body of choice for unlimited duels, and my combination of choice are Gauss Guns with a cyberlink. It has the highest space/weight/damage ratio, price is no object, and I need armor & handling more than weponry in that price class. There are a number of modernized variations.

Tree Snack - Div60 Luxury

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 FP SD tires, driver, 2 linked Lasers front, 2 linked Lasers rear, 2 laser batteries (1 for each linked pair); Hi-Res computer, 105 pts FP Plastic armor: F25 R20 L20 B20 U15 T5; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs; $51,000

  • Option 1 - Remove batteries, add gunner, second hi-res and 5 pts. Armor; $54,200
  • Option 2 - FPLR armor (remove 10 pts.) 6595; $51,650

Design notes - would this last two seconds in the arena? Ugh. 4 Lasers, nothing in the turret *and* two heavy rockets??

Baud Squash - Div60 (45) Luxury

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver, GG with 2 extra mags in turret, MG front, MD & FOJ linked rear, FE, cyberlink to GG; ramplate, 2 10 pt. FP WG rear; 146 pts. FP armor: F30 (ram) R30 L30 B30 U11 T16; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs, $52,915

  • Option 1: take out FE, cyberlink, add 10 pts. Armor; make turret pop-up UM; add hi-res; $44,515

Design notes: What a waste of money. As usual, too many weapons, not enough armor. Although it's an early signal of my "cyberlink to Gauss Gun" period.

Name notes:  Original name: "Losadur"
