Seaborgium - Div15 Sedan (Elemental)

Type:
Sedan, Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Large Electric (PC) (Pwr 2100, 10dp), Tires: 4 PR (9dp), Crew: Driver (no equip), Gunner (no equip) Weaponry RR (10/reg) front (2D burst), OJ (25/reg) back, SS (10/reg) back, Weighted Accessories: nil, Unwgt. Acces.: HRSWC, linked SS & OJ [1 total links], Dischargers: 10 total: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 smoke (2T, 2U, 1R 1L), Defenses: Wheel Armor: 60 total = 4x10 pt WG, 2x10 pt WH front, Component Armor 9 pts LRFP for (a) PP (5 sp), (b) Driver (2 sp), Cargo: 0 sp, 3.4 lbs.; Vehicle Armor: 142 pts Composite (45 Metal/7 Plastic): F(9/0) B(9/0) R(11/0) L(11/0) T(2/3) U(3/4); HC: 3, Acc. 5,  Top Speed 90, DM: 1, Hit Mod: 0, Weight: 6116.6 lbs. Max 6120, Cost: $14,938.50
  • Option 1 - Remove gunner, slope armor, add 3 pts Metal & 2 pts plastic vehicle armor, reduce HRSWC to SWC, add anti-lock brakes, $14,741.70, 6119.6 lbs.

  • Option 2 - Like Option 1, but remove Anti-lock brakes, convert SS to PS (25/reg) under as part of the Styx Laser Paint Array & Styx Defensive System* (i.e. 5 laser reactive webs & 4 bumper triggers, add 5 links = 6 total links),  $14,991.70, 6119.6 lbs.
Design Notes - I had hoped originally to get this below 10K but it was hanging around 11 and I didn't want to immediately strip the accessories or drop the RR to RL, so I pumped it up to Div15 with the HRSWC. Not sure why I wanted a crew of 2 (and I guess I rushed a draft to publication because, TBH, I wanted to make sure I had at least one entry in 2020).

But the 2 options even out the Div15 decision: sloped armor is always a plus (and worth a gunner, especially when there's only one offensive weapon); and the Styx Defense System works for staving off RL-LGL (or feisty actual lasers) that can be found in Div15.

Name Notes - Element #106, info from the Wiki: "a d-block transactinide element.... [it's] named after the American nuclear chemist Glenn T. Seaborg. As a synthetic element, it can be created in a laboratory but is not found in nature. It is also radioactive; the most stable known isotope." Why this element? Because it's a passive-aggressive way of showing that I'm not super happy with the design. It's obvious that it's a Div10 artificially inflated to Div15. One day I'll figure out the purpose of sedans; I'm still stuck in the Midsized/Luxury mindset I had back in the mid-1980s.

(Counter from here of the 1989 Ferrari 348 TS)

* Styx Defensive System = 6 Smoke Dischargers linked to 5 laser reactive webs (F, B, R, L, T; covering tires of those sides as well) & 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons)

Strontium - Div15 Sedan

Type: Sedan, Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Large Electric (PC) (Pwr 2100, 10dp), Tires: 4 Solids (12dp), Crew: Driver (no equip), Weaponry VMG (19/reg) front (2D area), FOJ (25/reg) back (1D-2, fire mod: 3/2), Weighted Accessories: nil, Unwgt. Acces.: SWC, Dischargers: 10 total: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 smoke (2T, 2U, 1R 1L); Wheel Armor: 36 total = 2x10 pt WG rear, 2x8 pt WH front, Component Armor 10 pts reg for (a) PP (5 sp), (b) Driver (2 sp), (c) FOJ (2 sp), Cargo: 0 sp, 2 lbs.; Vehicle Armor: 57 pts sloped Composite (46 Metal/11 Plastic): F(10/0) B(10/0) R(11/0) L(11/0) T(2/5) U(2/6); HC: 3, Acc. 5,  Top Speed 90, DM: 1, Hit Mod: -1, Weight: 6118 lbs. Max 6120, Cost: $14,994.80
  • Turret Option 1 - Put VMG in turret, armor is now 41 Metal/11 Plastic, 41 pts Wheel armor, 6118 lbs, $15,832.30.

  • Turret Option 2 - Put VMG in turret, add gunner, remove dischargers, no sloped armor, Vehicle armor is 40 Metal/14 Plastic, 20 pts wheel armor, 6116 lbs, $14,927.
Design Notes - I recently updated a car with my favorite combo, turreted VMG with a FOJ back. I call this the Hyperion, and I just wanted to see if I could make the same combo with a sedan not a midsized in Div15. Short answer, the Midsized version is way better. It has more armor and an IFE, while the main entry doesn't even have a turret (in order to keep the cost low)

Name Notes - An element name that in itself sounds cool. Info from the Wiki:
Strontium is the chemical element with the symbol Sr and atomic number 38. An alkaline earth metal, strontium is a soft silver-white yellowish metallic element that is highly chemically reactive. ... Both strontium and strontianite are named after Strontian, a village in Scotland near which the mineral was discovered in 1790...
But the name also evokes the British comic book Strontium Dog
Strontium Dog is a long-running British comics series featuring in the British science fiction weekly 2000 AD, starring Johnny Alpha, a mutant bounty hunter with an array of imaginative gadgets and weapons.

Hyperion 2069 - Div15 Midsized

Type: Midsized, Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Large Electric (Pwr 2000, 10dp), Tires: 4 Solids (12dp), Crew: Driver (no equip), Weaponry VMG (20/reg) in turret (2D area), FOJ (25/reg) back (1D-2, fire mod: 3/2), Weighted Accessories: IFE, Unwgt. Acces.: nil  Dischargers: 10 total: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 smoke (2T, 2U, 1R 1L), Wheel Armor: 60 total = 2x10 pt WG rear, 4x10 pt WH (all wheels), Component Armor 9 pts LRFP for Driver (2 sp), Cargo: 0 sp, 6.4 lbs.; Vehicle Armor: 49 pts Composite (36 Metal/13 Plastic): F(8/0) B(8/0) R(8/0) L(8/0) T(2/7) U(2/6); HC: 3, Acc. 5,  Top Speed 90, DM: 1, Hit Mod: 0, Weight: 5753.6 lbs. Max 5760, Cost: $14,948.00
  • Option 1 - remove 11 pts Wheelhubs, add 11 pts vehicle armor (F(8/3) B(8/2) R(8/3) L(8/3) T(2/7) U(2/6)), 5757.6 lbs, $14,914.
Summary: Midsized, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., driver, Large PP, 4 Solid tires, VMG in turret, FOJ rear, IFE, 10 smoke/oil disch., 60 pts WG/WH, 9 pts LRFP CA around driver, Armor (Met/Pl): F(8/0) B(8/0) R(8/0) L(8/0) T(2/7) U(2/6). HC 3, Acc 5, Top 90, 5753.6 lbs, $14,948

Design Notes - The paired VMG-FOJ is one of the best in the game. Like most of you designers, I made one and found it hard to make a div15 with Solid tires. As you can see from below, I've done this many times, and finally this year I put my laptop to the grindstone and made a pretty good version.

The necessary components in addition to that weapon array: Div15, solid tires, IFE, wheel protection. I was able to get component armor, and a full array of dischargers (10), but no bumper triggers or other fancy accessories. This is really tight & to the minimum to get Div15. I like that it's fully encased in Metal armor b/c that makes things fireproof

Argon - Div15 Midsized

Type: Midsized, Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Large Electric (no mods) (Pwr 2000, 10dp), Tires: 4 Solids (12dp), Crew: Driver (no equip), Weaponry Blast Cannon (10/reg) front (4D blast), Weighted Accessories: nil, Unwgt. Acces.: nil, Dischargers: nil  Defenses: nil Wheel Armor:  2x10 pt WG rear, 2x10 pt WH front, 17 pts WH rear (choose where), Component Armor 9 pts LRFP for (a) PP (5 sp), (b) Driver (2 sp), Cargo: 0 sp, 3.4 lbs.; Vehicle Armor: 62 pts Composite (42 Metal/20 Plastic): F(10/2) B(10/2) R(10/2) L(10/2) T(1/6) U(1/6); HC: 3, Acc. 5,  Top Speed 90, DM: 1, Hit Mod: 0, Weight: 5756.6 lbs. Max 5760, Cost: $14,957.50
  • Targeting Option - Add SWC, convert Comp-Armor to 10 pts of reg., remove 3 pts of WG for rear wheels, 5746 lbs (14 to spare), $14,990.

  • Div10 Option - Replace BC with 2 linked FT (10/reg) Back Left & Back Right; convert Comp-Armor to 10 pts of reg., WG the same but now 19pts WH (choose where), Vehicle Armor, 35 Metal & 13 inner plastic: F (8/1) B (8/1) R (8/2) L (8/2) T (1/3) U (2/4); 5750 lbs (10 to spare), $9980.00.

  • Original Concept Option - Replace BC with 4 unlinked HR (choose where), convert Comp-Armor to 10 pts of reg., 2x10 WG rear, 2x10 WH front, 2x7 WH rear, Vehicle Armor: 47 Metal & 20 inner plastic: F (11/2) B (10/2) R (11/3) L (11/3) T (2/5) U (2/5); 5746 lbs (14 lbs to spare), $9990.00
Design Notes - This started as an attempt to make a Div10 with heavy metal armor & solid tires & full wheel protection. When I discovered I couldn't do that without compromising weaponry (as you can see in the 'original concept'; in Div10, 4 heavy rockets won't do much at all). So I expanded it to Div15, and once I did that I was able to cram in a blast-cannon.  The Targeting option is probably better than the default, because not so many lasers in Div15, but getting a +1 in targeting has a big value

Name Notes - The element Argon (which sounds like a scifi name, no matter what). From the Wiki:
Argon is a chemical element with the symbol Ar and atomic number 18. It is in group 18 of the periodic table and is a noble gas. Argon is the third-most abundant gas in the Earth's atmosphere.... The name "argon" is derived from the Greek word ἀργόν, neuter singular form of ἀργός meaning "lazy" or "inactive", as a reference to the fact that the element undergoes almost no chemical reactions.

I chose this name not because it reflects on the design-concept, but because I like its sound.

Sus., Large PP, 2 PR tires back, 2 PR-Radials tires front, Driver; RL (20/reg) in turret, SD (10/explosive) BL, ID (25/reg) BR, ramplate, 40 pts total for Wheelguards/Wheelhubs (you choose where), 190 pts Plastic Armor: F 40 (ram) B 30 R 40 L 40 T 18 U 22; HC: 3, Acc. 5, 5400 lbs. (max 5760), $15,000.00
It's not easy making a Div15 ramcar that's faithful to the original design.  As I've said before, My recent designs have stayed almost completely away from ramplates because (a) I actually don't play with that mentality that much, and (b) the rules for ramming seem to change year to year (or phase to phase).

Kariff 2037 - Div15 Midsized (Updated)

Type: Midsized, Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Large (Pwr 2000, 10dp), Tires: 4 PR Tires (9dp), Crew: Driver (no equip), Weaponry ATG (10/APFSDS) front (3D+6 area), FT  (10/reg) back (1D, fire mod: 4/3), Weighted Accessories: IFE, Unweighted Accessories: HRSWC, [0 total links], Dischargers: 10 total: 6 oil (F, B, 2R, 2L) 4 smoke (2T, 2U), Defenses: n/a; Wheel Armor: 40 total = 2x10 pt WG rear, 2x10 pt WH front, Component Armor:  n/a, Cargo: No space, 2 lbs; Vehicle Armor: 148 pts Composite Armor (2 Metal/146 Plastic): F(0/30) B(0/30) R(0/35) L(0/35) T(0/11) U(2/5); HC: 3, Acc. 5,  Top Speed 90, Cruising: 54, DM: 1, Hit Mod: 0, Weight: 5758 lbs. Max 5758, Cost: $14,966.00
  • Simple Update Option - Midsized, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Large PP, 4 PR Tires, Driver; ATG (10/APDSDS) front (3D6+6), HDFT (10/reg) back, HRSWC to ATG, 168 pts Composite Armor (2 Metal/166 Plastic): F(0/35) B(0/35) R(0/40) L(0/40) T(0/11) U(2/5); HC: 3, Acc. 5, Top 90, 5758 lbs., $14,886.00
Design Notes -An update of this mildly obsolete 2037 version:
Midsized, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Large PP, 4 PR Tires, Driver; ATG front, HDFT back, 2 points component armor around HDFT (no weight back in 2037), SWC to ATG, 182 pts Plastic Armor: F 50 B 35 R 30 L 30 T 17 U 22 HC: 3, Acc. 5, 5760 lbs. (max 5760), $12,572.00
I reduced the HDFT to a regular FT because, with my modernization, space matters.  The FT allows a SS to be produced (which is why I switched around my normal dischargers to 6 oil), and that allowed me to add a fire extinguisher (desirable in general but a must given the FT and ATG).  Also the original was 12K, so I was able to get a HRSWC and still keep this in Div15.  I liked being able to add wheel armor and dischargers while keeping the car in the right weight. The biggest loss is in the reduction in armor.  All in all this isn't bad.

Name Notes - See the original.  Ugh.

Bloorib 2065 - Div15 Station Wagon (Updated)

Type: Station Wagon, Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Large (SC) (Pwr 2200, 10dp), Tires: 4 PR Tires (9dp), Crew: Driver (no equip), Weaponry ATG (10/reg) front (3D burst), 2 linked HR on rocket platform (3D, burst), Weighted Accessories: FE, Unweighted Accessories: SWC, [1 total link], Dischargers: 10 total: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 foam (2T, 2U, 1R 1L), Defenses: n/a; Wheel Armor: 40 total = 2x10 pt WG rear, 2x10 pt WH front, Component Armor:  10 pts FP around (a) driver, (b) PP, (c) ATG, Cargo: 7 spaces, 540 lbs; Vehicle Armor: 137 pts Composite Armor (2 LR Metal/135 FP Plastic): F(0/30) B(0/30) R(0/30) L(0/30) T(0/10) U(2/5); HC: 3, Acc. 5,  Top Speed 95, Cruising: 57, DM: 1, Hit Mod: 0, Weight: 6060 lbs. Max 6600, Cost: $15,000.00
  • Defense Option -Type: Station Wagon, Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Large (SC) (Pwr 2200, 10dp), Tires: 4 PR Tires (9dp), Crew: Driver (no equip), Weaponry ATG (10/reg) front (3D burst), 2 linked HR on rocket platform (3D, burst), SS (10/reg) rear, SD (10/reg) rear, OJ (25/reg) rear, all 3 linked, Weighted Accessories: n/a, Unweighted Accessories: SWC, [2 total linked], Dischargers: 10 total: 4 oil (FBRL) 4 smoke (2U, 1R 1L), 2 foam (2T), Defenses: n/a; Wheel Armor: 40 total = 2x10 pt WG rear, 2x10 pt WH front, Component Armor:  n/a, Cargo: 7 spaces, 665 lbs; Vehicle Armor: 137 pts Composite Armor (2 LR Metal/135 FP Plastic): F(0/30) B(0/30) R(0/30) L(0/30) T(0/10) U(2/5); HC: 3, Acc. 5,  Top Speed 95, Cruising: 57, DM: 1, Hit Mod: 0, Weight: 5935 lbs. Max 6600, Cost: $15,000.00.
Design Notes - Update, for the sake of updating, of this embarrassing 2037 design.
Station Wagon, Standard Chassis, Light Suspension, Large PP, 4 PR Tires, Driver, ATG front, 2 HRs left, 2 HRs right, 135 pts Plastic Armor: F 30 B 30 R 25 L 25 T 10 U 15; HC: 1 Acc. 5, 5500 lbs. (max 5500), $9,600.00
The first version is to make this fulfill the weapon system while still being half-way usable. I mean, who has a light chassis on a cargo hauler?  Even for an 'economy' car.  Then again, why have the overweight, inaccurate ATG on a cargo hauler?!

Name Notes -  It's terrible, see the original.

Max 6120, Cost: $12,971.00
  • Div 10 Option - Sedan, Heavy Chassis, Heavy Sus., Large PP (2000 pwr), 4 HD tires, driver, 2 linked RL front (10/reg), JD (10/reg) rear, 10 pts Comp Armor around driver (2sp) & PP (5sp), 51 pts sloped composite armor (41 Metal/10 Plastic): F(10/0) B(9/0) R(10/0) L(10/0) T(0/6) U(2/4), HC 3, Acc 5, Top 92.5, 5610 lbs, $9877.50

Design Notes - I tried to make a decent Div10 sedan but I found that to make this actually usable I didn't feel good about taking too much out, as can be seen with the hideous div10 option (which may actually be different enough to not be the same car, although it's been a long time since I had a Div10 duel so who knows).

Name Notes - From the Wiki: "Bergelmir (/bɛərˈjɛlmɪər/ bair-YEL-meer) or Saturn XXXVIII (38) (provisional designation S/2004 S 15) is a natural satellite of Saturn. ... It was named in April 2007 after Bergelmir, a giant from Norse mythology and the grandson of Ymir, the primordial giant. Bergelmir and his wife alone among their kind were the only survivors of the enormous deluge of blood from Ymir's wounds when he was killed by Odin and his brothers at the dawn of time. Bergelmir then became the progenitor of a new race of giants."

Cupid - Div15 Subcompact (Galaxy)

Type: Subcompact Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Small (PC & SC) (Pwr 920, 5dp), Tires: 4 Radial-Solid Tires (11dp), Crew: Driver (blended BA); Weaponry:  Pulsed Light Laser front (1D+1 area), Weighted Accessories: none, Unweighted Accessories: SWC, [2 total links], Dischargers: 10 dischargers: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 smoke (2T, 2U, 1R 1L), Defenses: Smoke Dischargers linked to 2 laser reactive webs (R, L; covering tires of those sides as well); 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons); Wheel Armor: 2x10 pt WG rear, 2x10 pt WH front, Component Armor:  none, Cargo: No space, no weight; 67 pts sloped Plastic Armor: F 15 B 15 R 15 L 15 T 3 U 4; HC: 5, Acc. 5, Top Speed 90, Cruising: 54 Weight: 2760 lbs. Max 2760, Cost: $14,860.70

  • Div 20 Option - Frame is C/A; add 100 pts vehicular armor; $19,220.70
  • Div 10 Option - Type: Subcompact Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Small (PC & SC) (Pwr 920, 5dp), Tires: 4 Solid Tires (12dp), Crew: Driver (no eqip); Weaponry:  Light Laser front (1D area), Weighted Accessories: none, Unweighted Accessories: SWC, [3 total links], Dischargers: 10 dischargers: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 smoke (2T, 2U, 1R 1L), Defenses: Smoke Dischargers linked to 3 laser reactive webs (F, R, L; covering tires of those sides as well); 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons); Wheel Armor: 2x10 pt WG rear, 2x10 pt WH front, Component Armor:  none, Cargo: No space, no weight; 80 pts sloped Plastic Armor: F 20 B 20 R 16 L 16 T 4 U 4; HC: 4, Acc. 5, Top Speed 90, Cruising: 54 Weight: 2760 lbs. Max 2760, Cost: $9,918.00

Design Notes -I had this in my draft pile dated Sept 5, 2010.  I suspect my basic idea was to get a pulsed LL in a subcompact.  LLs offer the best accuracy, damage, and weight distribution with unlimited ammo.  Sadly, subcompacts carry such poor armor that this can remain only a concept car.

Name Notes - Cupid is a very small moon of Uranus. According to the Wiki: "It was discovered by Mark R. Showalter and Jack J. Lissauer in 2003 ... [and] was named after a character in William Shakespeare's play Timon of Athens.  It is the smallest of inner Uranian satellites, crudely estimated to be only about 18 km in diameter."

(max 1300), $14,314.70
  • HD Option - Heavy Cycle (Streamlined/Carbon-Aluminum), Cycle Chassis, Heavy Suspension, Small Cycle PP (PC & SC) (2dp), 2 PR Tires (9dp), Cyclist (blended BA); 2 linked HMG (10/HD) front, SWC, HD-antilock brakes, HTM & Overdrive (linked), 2 total links; 20 pts sloped Plastic Armor: F 10 B 10; HC: 2, Acc. 5 (HTM 10/Overdrive 2.5), Top Speed 102.5 (75/122.5), Pwr 506, 1300 lbs. (max 1300), $14,464.00

  • HD Hi-Res Option - Heavy Cycle (Streamlined/Carbon-Aluminum), Cycle Chassis, Heavy Suspension, Small Cycle PP (PC & SC) (2dp), 2 PR Tires (9dp), Cyclist (blended BA); 2 linked HMG (10/HD) front, HRSWC, HTM, 1 total link; 20 pts sloped Plastic Armor: F 10 B 10; HC: 2, Acc. 5 (HTM 10), Top Speed 102.5 (75), Pwr 506, 1300 lbs. (max 1300), $14,814.00

Design Notes -This was in my draft pile dated either Oct 11, 2006 or Sept 17, 2010.  The concept was to get linked HMGs on a cycle.  My first design got messed up because I didn't remember that you couldn't modify the cycle chassis (and I did so with MADHAT and it got much cooler than it deserved to be).  A heavy cycle was thus a must to allow the most weight.

Even then, as anyone who has designed with HMGs knows, those things are *heavy* and I could almost not fit anything on the cycle, even with a C/A frame.

Given the targeting rules for cyclists, I thought the BA was worth 1 pt of vehicle armor.

Name Notes - Dysnomia is the moon of Eris: "the only known moon of the dwarf planet Eris (the most massive known dwarf planet in the Solar System). It was discovered in 2005 by Mike Brown and the laser guide star adaptive optics team at the W. M. Keck Observatory, ... officially named Dysnomia (from the Ancient Greek word Δυσνομία meaning "lawlessness") after the daughter of the Greek goddess Eris."

Convoy 4 - Div15 Compact

Compact, Xtra-Heavy Chassis, Heavy Suspension, Large PP (PC & SC) (10dp), 4 Solid Tires (12dp), Driver (no equip); LFT with mag (20/HT) in 1 sp. turret, SWC, spoiler & airdam, HD-antilock brakes, HDHTM, safety seat, 9 foam/sand dischargers (B 2R 2L 2T 2U) 52 pts total for Wheelguards/Wheelhubs (10 pt WG rear, 10 pt WH front, 6 pts WH rear) 9 pts LRFP Component Armor around driver [2 sp.], no cargo space, 143 pts Composite Armor (2 Metal/140 Plastic): F 0/30 B 0/30 R 0/30 L 0/30 T 0/16 U 2/5; HC: 3 (4 over 60), Acc. 10 (HDHTM 20), Top Speed 120 (80), Pwr 2300, 4438.6 lbs. (max 4440), $15,793.00
  • IFE Option - Compact, Xtra-Heavy Chassis, Heavy Suspension, Large PP (PC & SC) (10dp), 4 Solid Tires (12dp), Driver (no equip); LFT with mag (20/HT) in 1 sp. turret, SWC, IFE, spoiler & airdam, HD-antilock brakes, HDHTM, safety seat, 40 pts total for Wheelguards/Wheelhubs (10 pt WG rear, 10 pt WH front), no cargo space, 132 pts Composite Armor (2 Metal/130 Plastic): F 0/28 B 0/28 R 0/28 L 0/28 T 0/13 U 2/5; HC: 3, Acc. 10 (HDHTM 20), Top Speed 120 (80), Pwr 2300, 4440 lbs. (max 4440), $15,580.00

Design Notes - This is part of the Convoy project, see here for the lead postConvoy 1 is a lead vehicle while Convoy 2 is the "tail end charlie," and Convoy 3 is for salvage, and this one was conceived as an interceptor.  I wanted a fast car with a flamethrower that would zip in between the other convoy vehicles and harrass threats, especially bikes (who can't enjoy getting roasted).  The 15K tag was limiting, but I felt I could get it done with a compact.  Without data in front of me, I thought a compact with a large engine could handle this; FTs are cheap, cause fires, great accuracy, and provide smokescreens.   And I thought with an LFT with HT ammo the damage would be decent while also fitting inside a compact's turret.

I got basically everything I wanted given the cost constraints - except the small size meant that for convoy duty, I felt I needed an extra mag for the LFT - and that meant sacrificing either an IFE or component armor (hence the options above).  The large engine took up space as well, but for this to be a true "interceptor" it needed to have the high acceleration (HDHTM give this a zero to 60 in 3 seconds, and a top speed of 80, which was perfectly fine in its role in a convoy - when most cars will be at cruising speed to sustain power factors, and all cars need to be together around the truck, which won't be too fast given the low HC).

I wanted the convoy cars to all have solid tires (this just makes sense given the debris on a highway), safety seats, and fire extinguishers if at all possible.  This has most of that, but not perfectly so.

Convoy Notes - This makes a convoy of 4 cars.  Convoy 1 is $24,983, leaving $55,017; Convoy 2 is $17,489.00, leaving $37,528, Convoy 3 is $21,731 leaving $15,797, and now Convoy 4 is either $15,793 (leaving 4 bucks for bubble-gum) or $15,580 which leaves $217 for more substantial equipment.

Possibly I should use more of the same type of car so I could haul consistent spare tires.  Either all Convoy 3s (salvage pickups, maybe 2 of them with no cargo expectation and full armor) or convoy 3 and all midsized etc.  OK, maybe I'll try that next.

Kariff 2037 - Div15 Midsized (Obsolete)

Updated Here.
Midsized, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Large PP, 4 PR Tires, Driver; ATG front, HDFT back, 2 points component armor around HDFT (no weight back in 2037), SWC to ATG, 182 pts Plastic Armor: F 50 B 35 R 30 L 30 T 17 U 22 HC: 3, Acc. 5, 5760 lbs. (max 5760), $12,572.00

Design Notes -This probably was designed after Dan's Pride because of the presence of a HDFT.  And, as testimony to how well I know myself, look how I added an ATG!  In my mind, the 2 go together (as I said over there: "generally I stayed away from Flamethrowers (not sure why, probably because of their weight and volatility... yet I loved anti-tank guns).")

This is obsolete because the component armor rules changed; they used to be no space (and probably no weight; who knows)

Name Notes - Back then, I had such trouble with inventing new names (the intertubes hadn't been invented) that I would choose (somehow) 3 random consonants and then add suitable vowels to make a plausible sounding word.  I assume that's what happened here.

Bismark 2037 - Div15 Midsized

Updated here.
Midsized, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Large PP, 4 PR Tires, Driver; RL (10/incen) in turret, FCE (10/back), FE, ramplate, 40 pts total for Wheelguards/Wheelhubs; 233 pts Plastic Armor: F 55 (ram) B 40 R 40 L 40 T 30 U 28; HC: 3, Acc. 5, 5704 lbs. (max 5760), $14,948.00

Design Notes - A lot of design choices were directed to make this a div15 car.  I guess that's why there's PR tires and no targ. computer.  But the armor is ridiculous given the other trappings in the car.  Sigh.

Name Notes -No idea.

Outlaw 2037 - Div15 Station Wagon

Updated here.
Station Wagon, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Super PP, 4 PR Tires, Driver & 1 passenger (in cargo); RR with mag front, RL back, HDPS back, 3 space sleeping compartment (in cargo), 3 spaces for cargo: 900 lbs capacity; 150 pts Plastic Armor: F 35 B 30 R 30 L 30 T 10 U 15; HC: 3, Acc. 5, 5965 lbs. (max 6600), $14,400.00

Design Notes - I just don't know about station wagons or cargo spaces.  It's yet another thing to fix (I understand there's a new reboot a-comin').

Name Notes -This is too good a name for this turkey.

Spyrix 2037 - Div15 Midsize (Obsolete)

Updated here:
Midsized, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Large PP, 2 PR tires back, 2 PR-Radials tires front, Driver; RL (20/reg) in turret, SD (10/explosive) BL, ID (25/reg) BR, ramplate, 40 pts total for Wheelguards/Wheelhubs (you choose where), 190 pts Plastic Armor: F 40 (ram) B 30 R 40 L 40 T 18 U 22; HC: 3, Acc. 5, 5400 lbs. (max 5760), $15,000.00
  • Option - Raise armor to 230 pts, 50 pt ramplate, HRTC, 5760 lbs, $19,880
Design Notes - Obsolete because of the rule of radials (front tires mattered for HC and the only radials were for PR tires... when did they change?).  This is yet another of my odd duck creations.

Name Notes - I have no idea.  I do like the X though.

Coaster 2059 (AADA Fix) - Div10 Compact

Intro - This first update is from a draft post, Sept 29, 2009; as part of the project to update the AADA Vehicle guides.  This is from the AADA Vehicle Guide #1, "Coaster Deluxe."

Original - Compact, Xhvy Chassis, Heavy Sus., Med PP, 4 SD tires, driver; MG (20/reg) front, MD (10/reg) back, 1 extra space, 225 pts Plastic Armor: F45 B45 R40 L40 T30 U25; HC 3, Acc 5, 4200 lbs, $9825
  • Original Notes - The original was designed with cargo space, and since this is the oldest of schools, there were no engine options; once PC/SC is allowed, a Med PP can carry the max weight.

2059 Update: Compact, Xhvy Chassis, Hvy Sus., Medium PP, 4 SD tires, driver; MG (20/reg) front, MD (10/reg) back, 2 smoke/oil dischargers; 10 pts FP CA around driver; 215 pts platic Armor: F45 B45 R40 L40 T25 U20; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 90, 4190 lbs, $9995

  • Design Notes - This was my first attempt back in 2059 (2009, ahem).  It's fine.  My first impression 4 years later was to add power to the engine and a turret, because why not with a base 1 space weapon?  I was about to add a turreted HMG, but that's already the Venus series (here and here), and my commitment to 'weapon system as identity' meant I couldn't go there.
2063 Update 1: Compact, Xhvy Chassis, Hvy Sus., Medium PP (SC), 4 PR tires, driver; MG (20/reg) in 1sp turret, MD (10/reg) back, 10 dischargers: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 smoke (2T, 2U, 1R 1L); 37 pts total for Wheelguards/Wheelhubs (you choose where), 10 pts CA around driver; 77 pts Composite Armor (35 LR Metal/42 Plastic): F 8/4 B 8/4 R 8/5 L 8/5 T 1/16 U 2/8; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 90, 4440 lbs, $9967.25
  • Design Notes - OK, so there what to like here. LR Metal armor may or may not be necessary in Div10, but it really is cheap ($113.75 difference), I didn't go to LR CA though because I just felt 1 pt matters there and there's very few lasers in div10.  I'm not sure if I can keep Solid tires and keep this a Div10, but that should be an ultimate goal.
2063 Update 2: Compact, Xhvy Chassis, Hvy Sus., Medium PP (SC), 4 PR tires, driver; HMG (15/HD) front, MD (10/reg) back, 10 dischargers: 5 oil or smoke, 5 foam or sand; 36 pts total for Wheelguards/Wheelhubs (you choose where), 10 pts CA around driver; 53 pts Composite Armor (39 Metal/14 Plastic): F 8/0 B 8/0 R 9/0 L 9/0 T 3/7 U 2/7; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 1540, 4438 lbs, $9984.50
  • Design Notes - This was an attempt to get an HMG and to do that I dropped the turret, and I like the lethality and variation but I'd still like to get some solid tires in here..
2063 Update 3: Compact, Xhvy Chassis, Hvy Sus., Medium PP (PC), 4 Solid tires, driver; HMG (10/HD) front, MD (10/reg) back, no dischargers: 36 pts total for Wheelguards/Wheelhubs (you choose where), 10 pts CA around driver; 52 pts Composite Armor (38 Metal/14 Plastic): F 8/0 B 8/0 R 9/0 L 9/0 T 3/7 U 1/7; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 1470, 4408 lbs (max 4410), $9977.00
  • Design Notes - OK, so here's 1 version of a standard 'Coaster' with an HMG; I couldn't keep the dischargers though.
2063 Update 4, Div15: Compact, Xhvy Chassis, Hvy Sus., Medium PP (PC & SC), 4 Solid tires, driver; HMG (15/HD) front, MD (10/napalm) back, SWC, safety seat, HTM, HD brakes, 10 dischargers: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 smoke (2T, 2U, 1R 1L): smoke linked to 5 laser reactive webs (F, B, R, L, T; covering tires of those sides as well) and 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons); 5 total links, 36 pts total for Wheelguards/Wheelhubs (you choose where), 9 pts LRFP CA around driver; 48 pts Composite Armor (35 LR Metal/13 Plastic): F 8/0 B 8/0 R 8/0 L 8/0 T 1/5 U 2/8; HC 3, Acc. 5 (HTM 10), Top 95 (70), Pwr 1610, 4436.6 lbs (max 4440), $14,455.25
  • Design Notes - This is going to be the last.  As you can see, it's really a glorified div10 car.  The LR armor does matter more in Div15, as with all the other defensive methods.

Tarqeq - Div15, Div5 Subcompact (Galaxy)

Subcompact (Carbon-Aluminum Frame), Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 Radial-Solid Tires, Driver (in BA); VMG (20/reg) front, 8 foam dischargers, 2 smoke/oil dischargers, 40 pts WG/WH, 116 pts Plastic Armor: F 25 B 25 R 22 L 22 T 10 U 12 HC 5, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 920, 2760 lbs., $14,976.00
  • Economy Option - Subcompact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 PR Tires, Driver; VMG (10/reg) front, 8 foam dischargers, 2 smoke/oil dischargers, 40 pts WG/WH, 70 pts Plastic Armor: F 15 B 15 R 15 L 30 T 7 U 3 HC 4, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 920, 2760 lbs., $6,220.00

  • Div5 Option - Subcompact, Heavy Ch., Imp. Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 HD Tires, Driver; VMG (10/reg) front, 56 pts Composite Armor (2 Metal/54 Plastic): F 2/10 BRL 0/10 TU 0/7  HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 95, Pwr 920, 2530 lbs., $4,999.00

Design Notes - Ya know, I like the Div5 the best.  This was in my draft box dated Sept 5, 2010.  I think it was a design experiment for a subcompact with a VMG.  Vans like subcompacts tempt you to use C/A but it's best to resist. I wonder if we should redo the rules on subs like I want for vans (because this is a sign of how flawed the rules are on this).

One idea, I'm wondering if we should allow cycle engines for subcompacts?

Name Notes - Tarqeq is a moon of Saturn, named after an Inuit moon god.  Well, at least it's a moon, eh Tarqeq?

Lowdown 2057 - Div20 Compact

Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Med PP (SC), 4 Soild Radial Tires, Driver; Laser front, 10 oil/smoke dischargers, linked to 3 bumper triggers (also linked to that side's weapons) 39 pts WG/WH, 9 pts LRFP CA each around PP and driver 183 pts Plastic Armor: F 38 B 38 R 40 L 40 T 12 U 15; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 90 Pwr 1540, 4432.8 lbs. $19,994.00

  • Metal Option - Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Med PP (SC), 4 Soild Radial Tires, Driver; Laser front, SWC, 10 oil/smoke dischargers, linked to 4 bumper triggers (also linked to that side's weapons) 39 pts WG/WH, 9 pts LRFP CA each around PP and driver 56 pts composite Armor (32 LR Metal/24 Plastic): FBRL 8/0 T 0/10 U 0/14; HC 4, Acc. 5, Top 90 Pwr 1540, 4438.8 lbs. $19,621.00
  • Div 15 Option 1 - Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Med PP (SC), 4 Soild Tires, Driver; Laser front, 28 pts WG/WH, 10 pts CA each around PP and driver 61 pts composite Armor (37 Metal/24 Plastic): F 10/0 BRL 9/0 T 0/10 U 0/14; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 90 Pwr 1540, 4436 lbs. $14,994.50
  • Div 15 Option 2 - Compact, Heavy Ch., Heavy. Sus., Med PP, 4 Soild Tires, Driver; Laser front, 8 oil/smoke dischargers 10 pts CA each around PP and driver 160 pts Armor (Plastic): F 33 B 33 R 35 L 35 T 12 U 12; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 90 Pwr 1400, 4070 lbs. $14,980.00 note: Exchange dischargers for 10 pts WG/WH, save $300.

Design Notes -The obsolete original is here
Compact, Hvy. Ch., Hvy Sus., Medium PP, driver, 4 PR tires, Laser in turret, 170 pts Armor: F40 R30 L30 B35 T20 U15, Acc. 5, HC 3, 4070 lbs. $14,710

Ah for the days of the full turreted compacts.  Ah well.  Anyway, I'm wondering if the Div15 is a decent option.  BTW, I tried to get it down to div10 and that won't work.  Maybe a trike?  But, as you can see from my site, I just don't understand trikes; are they even allowed in regular duels?  I recall that bikes aren't allowed, but it has been 30 years.

Update: I added the second div15 option because, uh, it actually reflected the original better, but with CA.

Design Notes -This is an update of an obsolete design:
Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Medium PP, 4 PR tires, driver, RL front, RL in turret, 191 pts. Armor: F50 R35 L35 B36 T15 U20; Acc. 5, HC 3, 4196 lbs., $9883
It's obsolete because of the 2sp turret, and I'm wondering if I had the right engine (I guess 4200 lbs could use a Medium PP).  The update jacked it up to div18 (which most people use as div20).  I guess it's the PR tires. Anyway, I provided a number of options, and the div10 one took the most ingenuity, given I was committed to keeping the entire weapon system intact: 3 MMLs with a smartlink and targeting computer.

It's the Div10 design process that keeps me committed to using the Excel designer (from the fine folks at MADHAT) - the ability to manipulate the armor numbers, and balance this with that, is best accomplished with a spreadsheet.  The online ones don't help in the same way (let alone my 30 years ago system of filler paper and a watch calculator).
