Design Notes - Updated from this 2037 design:
Subcompact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., OR suspension, Medium PP, driver, 4 OR solids, MG front, SWC; 78 pts FP armor: F24 R15 L15 B20 T2 U2; Acc. 10 HC 2 (HC3 in 2063), 2760 lbs., $9566 (listed, really its $9,216.00).
At first it appears to be such a simple enough design (subcompact with an MG, gotcha) that it may not need updated.  But where's the fun in that?  It's possibly why I decided on a LMG with explosive ammo - i.e. just to not make this car a cliche.  Since it's OR, I added the brushcutter.  In order to make room/weight for the standard upgrades (WG, disch., CA) I reduced the engine from Medium to Light, accepting the reduction in acceleration, and offseting that with HTM (can't be 'Mercury' without being fast).

Name Notes - The planet Mercury.

Design Notes -This was in my archive folder dated Nov 20, 2012 under the name "Pocket Rocket."  I kept it from the blog because I guess I wanted to reduce it to Div5.  But I've actually made other Div5 Subcompact with RLs: Weywot and the Nunam option.  As it stands, the primary entry has to be in my 3Q Division ($7500 and under).

Jan 3, 2014 Update: I noticed the Div5 version was unchanged from the original.  Oops.  While re-entering the data, I realized I could make this Div5 by dropping a point in suspension etc., hence Option 2.

Name Notes - Hydra is a moon of Pluto.  How did I not use this name yet?  Considering it's the trade name of the standard anti-tank rocket of the US military.  About the moon: "Hydra is the outermost known natural satellite of Pluto. It was discovered along with Nix in June 2005,  ... The name is that of the Hydra, the nine-headed serpent which battled Hercules in Greco-Roman mythology. The nine heads of Hydra are a reference to Pluto's tenure as the ninth planet; its initial, H, refers to the Hubble Telescope which discovered Hydra"

Cupid - Div15 Subcompact (Galaxy)

Type: Subcompact Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Small (PC & SC) (Pwr 920, 5dp), Tires: 4 Radial-Solid Tires (11dp), Crew: Driver (blended BA); Weaponry:  Pulsed Light Laser front (1D+1 area), Weighted Accessories: none, Unweighted Accessories: SWC, [2 total links], Dischargers: 10 dischargers: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 smoke (2T, 2U, 1R 1L), Defenses: Smoke Dischargers linked to 2 laser reactive webs (R, L; covering tires of those sides as well); 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons); Wheel Armor: 2x10 pt WG rear, 2x10 pt WH front, Component Armor:  none, Cargo: No space, no weight; 67 pts sloped Plastic Armor: F 15 B 15 R 15 L 15 T 3 U 4; HC: 5, Acc. 5, Top Speed 90, Cruising: 54 Weight: 2760 lbs. Max 2760, Cost: $14,860.70

  • Div 20 Option - Frame is C/A; add 100 pts vehicular armor; $19,220.70
  • Div 10 Option - Type: Subcompact Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Small (PC & SC) (Pwr 920, 5dp), Tires: 4 Solid Tires (12dp), Crew: Driver (no eqip); Weaponry:  Light Laser front (1D area), Weighted Accessories: none, Unweighted Accessories: SWC, [3 total links], Dischargers: 10 dischargers: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 smoke (2T, 2U, 1R 1L), Defenses: Smoke Dischargers linked to 3 laser reactive webs (F, R, L; covering tires of those sides as well); 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons); Wheel Armor: 2x10 pt WG rear, 2x10 pt WH front, Component Armor:  none, Cargo: No space, no weight; 80 pts sloped Plastic Armor: F 20 B 20 R 16 L 16 T 4 U 4; HC: 4, Acc. 5, Top Speed 90, Cruising: 54 Weight: 2760 lbs. Max 2760, Cost: $9,918.00

Design Notes -I had this in my draft pile dated Sept 5, 2010.  I suspect my basic idea was to get a pulsed LL in a subcompact.  LLs offer the best accuracy, damage, and weight distribution with unlimited ammo.  Sadly, subcompacts carry such poor armor that this can remain only a concept car.

Name Notes - Cupid is a very small moon of Uranus. According to the Wiki: "It was discovered by Mark R. Showalter and Jack J. Lissauer in 2003 ... [and] was named after a character in William Shakespeare's play Timon of Athens.  It is the smallest of inner Uranian satellites, crudely estimated to be only about 18 km in diameter."

Nunam - Div5 Subcompact (Galaxy)

Subcompact, Heavy Chassis, Light Suspension, Small PP (PC) (5dp), 4 HD Tires (6dp), Driver (no equip), FT (10/reg) front, HRSWC, 27 pts Plastic Armor: F 6 B 5 R 7 L 7 T 1 U 1; HC: 2, Acc. 5, Top Speed 90, Pwr 840, 2445 lbs. (max 2530), $4,997.00
  • RL Option - Subcompact, Standard Chassis, Light Suspension, Small PP (5dp), 4 Standard Tires (4dp), Driver (no equip), RL (8/reg) front, HRSWC, 20 pts Plastic Armor: F 4 B 4 R 5 L 5 T 1 U 1; HC: 2, Acc. 5, Top Speed 95, Pwr 800, 2110 lbs. (max 2300), $5,000.00

Design Notes - As I said here with Weywot, this started as a project to get a HRSWC into a div5 car.  I started with a RL and that forced a design with almost has the bare minimum of components and still be called a car.  Then I realized that the FT is cheaper, and a FT plus HRSWC is pretty effective, I'd imagine.  The FT design was so much better that I made it the primary.  Both still lack armor for my confidence though.

Subcompacts' higher HC allows me to save some money with a light suspension, and every dollar counts in this division.

Name Notes -From the Wiki: "79360 Sila–Nunam (IAU name: 79360 Sila–Nunam) is a double classical Kuiper belt object (cubewano) with components of almost equal size, orbiting beyond Neptune in the Solar System. The name of the system is the combined names of the two bodies, Sila and Nunam."

Tarqeq - Div15, Div5 Subcompact (Galaxy)

Subcompact (Carbon-Aluminum Frame), Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 Radial-Solid Tires, Driver (in BA); VMG (20/reg) front, 8 foam dischargers, 2 smoke/oil dischargers, 40 pts WG/WH, 116 pts Plastic Armor: F 25 B 25 R 22 L 22 T 10 U 12 HC 5, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 920, 2760 lbs., $14,976.00
  • Economy Option - Subcompact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 PR Tires, Driver; VMG (10/reg) front, 8 foam dischargers, 2 smoke/oil dischargers, 40 pts WG/WH, 70 pts Plastic Armor: F 15 B 15 R 15 L 30 T 7 U 3 HC 4, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 920, 2760 lbs., $6,220.00

  • Div5 Option - Subcompact, Heavy Ch., Imp. Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 HD Tires, Driver; VMG (10/reg) front, 56 pts Composite Armor (2 Metal/54 Plastic): F 2/10 BRL 0/10 TU 0/7  HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 95, Pwr 920, 2530 lbs., $4,999.00

Design Notes - Ya know, I like the Div5 the best.  This was in my draft box dated Sept 5, 2010.  I think it was a design experiment for a subcompact with a VMG.  Vans like subcompacts tempt you to use C/A but it's best to resist. I wonder if we should redo the rules on subs like I want for vans (because this is a sign of how flawed the rules are on this).

One idea, I'm wondering if we should allow cycle engines for subcompacts?

Name Notes - Tarqeq is a moon of Saturn, named after an Inuit moon god.  Well, at least it's a moon, eh Tarqeq?

Kerberos - Div5 Subcompact (Galaxy)

Subcompact, Hvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Small PP (SC), 2 HD tires front, 2 Std tires rear, Driver; VMG (9/reg) front, 2x2pt WG rear, 63 pts Plastic Armor: F14 B14 R10 L10 T8 U7 HC 4, Acc. 5, Top 92.5, Pwr 880, 2516 lbs., $4,998

  • Option- Improved suspension, 4 HD tires, 65 pts armor, no WG; HC 3, Acc 5, Pwr 880, Top 90, 2530 lbs, $4,930

Design Notes - This was an attempt to make a div5 with a Vulcan.

Name Notes - One of Pluto's moons, named here in 2013!

Hardhead 2057 - Div20 Subcompact

Subcompact (C/A frame), Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Small PP (PC/SC), 4 HD tires, driver, 2 linked LL (pulse) in EWPs pointing front, 10 pts EWP armor, 10 pts FP CA each around driver & PP, HRSWC, 114 pts plastic armor (F25 B25 R20 L20 T12 U12), Acc 5, Top 90, HC 4, 2760 lbs., $19,954
  • Option 1 (Div15) - Replace LLs with MMLs (10/AP each), add 30 pts armor, $13,434
  • Option 2 (Div15) - Replace LLs with MMLs (10/AP each) and replace internal CA with 2 more MML (10/AP) front, all 4 weapons linked; $14,704
  • Option 3 (Div25) - Like #2 but add TL linked to all 40 rocket rounds, remove 10 pts armor from EWP and 2 pts vehicular armor; $24,282

Design Notes - An update of this 2037 design. The original design had a huge engine, a EWP on the roof (facing front) and was armed with a light laser. Since then the rules disallowed even EWPs on roof for subs. I decided to incorporate the EWP + LL - using the space inside for componant armor.

I also found the best aspect of the weapon that I have hitherto eulogized as rule-jockeyed out of relevance: pulsing a LL adds no weight.

The MML options are just to see how much damage a subcompact can veritably dish out.

Isohedron - Div50 Subcompact

Subcompact, C/A frame, Xhvy Ch., Hvy-Active Sus., Small PP (PC/SC), 4 Solid (FP-Radial) tires, driver (Blended BA & PFE), RL (10/Incen) front, ITL front, LGL to 10 rockets, 5 oil/smoke dischargers, HRSWC, HD-ABS, HD shocks, 4 bumper triggers, HTM-Overdrive, Spoiler & Airdam; No Paint Tinted Windshield; 133 pts RRFP Plastic armor (F30 B20 L25 R25 T20 U13); Acc. 5 (10), Top 90 (67.5/110), HC 6 (7), 2760 lbs, $45,552

Design Notes - I had this on the drawing board, and it looked finished. I didn't see that it had been posted, so here goes. It's the contrast, I guess, with these Div5s. A waste of money, life and limb... ladies and gentlemen, I present the $45,000 subcompact. For the mother in law.

Killer Sub - Div20 Subcompact

Subcompact, C/A frame, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Medium PP, driver (in BA), 4 PR-Radial tires, HMG (10/HD shots) front, 3 linked FOJ Dischargers (B, L, R), active suspension, HRSWC, HDHTM, Overdrive, spoiler & airdam, 129 pts. Plastic armor, F 30 B 25 R 26 L 26 T 9 U 13; HC 6 (7 over 60), Acc. 10 (20 hdhtm/5 overdrive), Top 120 (80/140), 2760 lbs., $19,694

Design Notes - This would be good for a rally race where you can't use racing body cars. Speed and handling is outa-sight and decent armor for a sub, but its too 'niche' to be a useful stock car staple.

Little Lucifer - Div10 Subcompact

Subcompact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Small PP (PC/SC), 4 HD tires, driver (in BA), 2 linked MG front (20/Incend.), 3 linked Paint Dischargers (R, L, B), SWC, 105 pts. Plastic Armor: F25 B25 L20 R20 T5 U10; Acc. 5, Top 90, HC 4, 2760 lbs, $7,925

Design Notes - This is from last year. I tried making it a Div5 version (at least as an option) but it sucked too hard to move. It was called 'Lucifer' because I had the great idea that it would sport a searchlight and then use that light to blind my opponents. But then I was told it was illegal.

Gremlin 2057 - Subcompact Hatchback (Concept Car)

See below for design details and hatchback rules.

Subcompact Hatchback, Std. Chassis, Improved Suspension, driver, Small PP, 4 HD tires, LMG (10 shots) in 1 sp. turret, SWC, 1 space cargo (25 lbs), 38 pts armor. F8 R6 L6 B5 T8 U5, Acc. 5, HC 3, Top Speed 92.5, 2275 lbs (unloaded), $4,468

  • Rocket Option - replace LMG with MML-AP (same cost, weight, whole shebang)
  • Duellers Option - 20 shots in LMG, 2300 lbs, $4,668
  • Rocket Dueller - rocket option with 5 pts more armor, 2300 lbs, $4,523

Designer Notes : Why make a subcompact hatchback without using the turret? The non-duellers are for the RPG use of hatchback space (not much weighs 25 lbs but any heavier chassis and this won't be able to use a small engine (which would take up all the room).

Here's what I would do if I wanted to make this a non-economy/Duelling car.

Gremlins 2 - Subcompact Hatchback, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 PR tires, driver, MG in turret, SWC, 112 pts. Plastic armor: F20 R20 L20 B20 T18 U14, Acc. 5, HC 4, Top Speed 90, 2760 lbs., $6,932

Manna 2037 - RPG Subcompact

Subcompact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Large PP, 4 PR tires, no weaponry, velvet glove trimmings, spoiler & airdam, Armor: F20 R13 L13 B16 T0 U0, Acc. 10, HC 3, 2760 lbs., $15,532 (no glove $5,532)

Design Notes - I use the label 'RPG' to describe a car not meant for arena dueling. These cars are the sci-fi/role-playing concepts. I mean, if a subcompact is a sports car, then what would a 2037 sports car look like? The above stinkeroo is one idea.

Note, back in '37 you needed to have a big engine to get consistently high acceleration. In years hence they invented High Torque Motors and instead of balancing weight-space-cost in engine size you just pay $400 and viola! Grrrr. Yup, I think HTM is a bad idea. Massive changes in game dynamics require more than just a few hundred bucks! Space and weight are much more difficult to manipulate and have much more of a design "cost" (ironically). Once HTM was introduced was it any surprise that almost every duelling car had them installed. Heck, they didn't even make you enter a new price range! Double grrr.

Name Notes - The original name was "Mammer."

Hardhead 2037 - Div10 Subcompact (Obsolete)

The car is updated here.

Subcompact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Large PP, driver, 4 HD tires, 1sp. EWP top with LL forward; 8 pts EWP armor; 33 pts Armor: F11 R6 L6 B10 U0 T0, Acc. 10, HC 3, 2757 lbs., $7343
  • Option - LL to MG, $5843

Design Notes - Ugh. I think this was to experiment with the idea that subcompacts could use EWPs in the never-ending bid to be effective. Subcompacts and Vans, the ends of the original CW spectrum - and how I still think about the game, sorry - were badly conceived and haven't improved much in 20 years. But I'll include my gripes and my attempts to improve things in another section of posts. This will include my complaints about the Light Laser. I included it in this car because, 20 years ago, it was the best one space weapon available. Now they are truly obsolete.

(2013: I'm thinking of possibly making a new division called "Division Three-Quarters" for cars under $7500.  I've seen the fun in designing for low money bouts, and there's enough of a jump between 5K and 10K that another one in between possibly would be fun)

Name Notes - The original name was "Hafoove."

[Updated Nov 8, 2013]

Mercury 2037 - Div10 OR Subcompact (Galaxy Motors)

Updated here.
Subcompact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., OR suspension, Medium PP, driver, 4 OR solids, MG front, SWC; 78 pts FP armor: F24 R15 L15 B20 T2 U2; Acc. 10 HC 2 (HC3 in 2063), 2760 lbs., $9566 (listed, really its $9,216.00)

Design notes - I created a subdivision of Styx Motors called 'Galaxy Motors.' This was to make the task of naming hundreds of designs more logical. And easier. I retroactively applied the names to a bunch of designs a few years later (and even now) because I had really stupid name ideas way back when. Recently, I use random phrase generators (see links).

Updated Nov 11, 2013:
Was this the first "Galaxy Motors" car?  That's how it's listed in the title. And look at the scan.

Actually, after looking at the scan, I see the numbers may be off.  The original design was to have a Light Laser and TC - look closely at the sheet and the MG has infinite shots.  The design had a TC but the "notes" has a SWC.  And even with a SWC, the cost should be $9216 - I'm missing $350.
