Lympite 2037 - Div30 Luxury (Combat)

Updated here:
Luxury, Xtra-Heavy Chassis, Heavy Suspension, Super PP, 4 PR Tires, Driver; Laser in turret, 2 linked RR with mags front, 2 linked MG back, TC, FE, 127 pts FP Plastic Armor: F 30 B 30 R 20 L 20 T 14 U 13;  HC: 3, Acc. 5, 6600 lbs., $29,680.00 [actually $30,080 oops]

Combat Record:
  • SHOTS: 1 laser
  • HITS: 20 back, 3 hits to each MG, 3 hits to PP, 3 hits to driver
  • I assume I lost

Design Notes - Turns out that I made a 2057 Lympite where I said: "There was an original Lympite, I think, but I don't recall uploading it. Oh well"

Experi II 2037 - Light Tank (Combat)

Light Tank, Tank Suspension, Small PP (8space, 20dp), 2 Combat Treads (55dp) Driver, 3 Gunners (2 in hull, 1 in turret), Medium Tank Gun in 6sp. turret, 2 linked HL front, 2 laser batteries, VMG back, 4 HRTC, 444 pts Plastic Armor: F 100 B 70 R 80 L 80 T 60 U 54;  HC: 3, Acc. 5, 21,998 lbs. (max 22,000), $143,960.00

Combat Record
  • Shots: 1 for HLs, 4 for TG, 1 for VMG
  • Hits: 11 for left tread, 7 for right tread.

Design Notes -I don't know who I was fighting against.  I do like this tank, who wouldn't.

Name Notes - "Experi" comes from 'experiment.'  Nothing to be ashamed of, most military names are these uncool practicalities.

The Killer RV Killer 2037 - RPG RV (combat, obsolete)

40' RV, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Reg. Truck PP, 10 Solid Tires, Driver & 3 Gunners (all have IBA); 2 4sp UM turrets, 2 VMG (20/reg) in back turret, VMG (20/reg) FR, VMG (20/reg) FL, AC with mag in front turret, HL front, HL back, MD (10/napalm) back, 2 laser batteries, cyberlink to VMG turret, 4 HRTC, 4 ejection seats, IR sighting system, ramplate, roll-cage, IFE, anti-theft system with 22 AP grenades, 12 smoke dischargers (no weight), radar, LDR, no-paint windshield, 417 pts Plastic Armor: F 50 (ram), B 47 FR/BR/FL/BL/FT/BT/FU/BU 40; HC: 1 Acc. 2.5/5; 25,181 lbs. $145,200.00

Combat Record
  • SHOTS front HL 3, back HL 2, MD 1, VMG right 1, AC 6, turreted VMG 8 each;
  • DAMAGE: front 18 hits, back 25, BL 7, FL 5, FR 11, BR 10, FT 5, BT 11, BU 0, FU 0
  • TIRE DAMAGE (note, for some reason I had 12 tires, ooops): front left outer & inner, 7 each; front right outer 17, inner 6; back left tires: 4, 8, 10, 6; back right tires: 4, 11, 11, 7 (see picture for details)

Design Notes - What happened here? I don't see a record of the battle or the other cars invovled.  This at least has the best weapons available at the time: (1) vulcans, (2) autocannons, and (3) heavy lasers.   This also reflects my offense over defense philosophy which persists until this day.

Anyway, when it came to buses etc, I didn't have the books to design these fancy creatures, if I recall correctly, so these designs were made only with the help of my friends' resources.  Either that or I had an easy system to make luxury/vans.

Also, it's nice I gave the whole crew ejection seats and body armor, I never do that nowadays.

Name Notes -There must have been a scenario where I went toe-to-toe with another RV (the "Killer RV" I was going to kill).

Moron 2037 - RPG Chopper (Combat)

Standard Chopper, reg PP, pilot & gunner, 2 VMG (20/HD) in 4 space UM turret, 2 linked RL (10/AP) front, ITL front, LGL to 20 rockets, CACR, CD (10/reg) linked to radar detector, cyberlink (driver to VMG), IFE; 433 pts Plastic Armor: F 90 B 80 R 70 L 70 T 53 U 70; HC: 3, Acc. 5, 13,987 lbs., $122,240.00

Combat Record - 7 shots from VMGs, 3 shots from RLs; 35 hits to front armor, 62 right, 30 back, 9 left.

Design Notes - What was I fighting?!  And why have the chaff without buying RP armor?  Did I even have a budget?  This demonstrates why I was an enthusiastic but unthinking designer.  If I had so much money and weight to use, why not get Lasers or more VMGs instead of rockets, LGL or no?

Also, this shows you the adolescent egotism.  In my 15 year old mind, I thought that the pilot should have the cyberlink because I was the pilot and I would be the best.  Of course in any standard fight, if there's a gunner, he'd have the higher 'gunner' score.

The whole 'chaff' thing was a thing back in the day, much like flachette guns.  Very specific use items that never came up.  Who used Radar Guidance when you had peerless laser?

Name Notes -Another adolescent name, I presume.

Ariel 2037 - Div30 Midsized (Galaxy, Combat)

Midsized, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Large PP (10dp), 4 PR Tires, Driver; 2 linked Lasers front, OJ (25/reg) back, HRTC, 229 pts Plastic Armor: F 50 B 45 R 45 L 45 T 19 U 25; HC: 3 Acc. 5, 5757 lbs. (max 5760), $29,114.00

Combat Record
  • all I see is 2 shots of OJ.
  • Possibly all else was erased.

Design Notes - It's in div30 because back in 1987 if a car was even a few bucks above one division, I'd just add a hi-res computer and push it to the next.  Given the huge amount of armor, I should definitely had gone for solid tires.  Ah well, wait until the update.

Name Notes - This was unnamed, for some reason, even though it was taken into battle. For this batch of unnamed "vintage" cars, I decided to use the moons of Uranus (no sniggering, please), which according to the wiki:
"The first two Uranian moons, discovered in 1787, did not receive names until 1852, a year after two more moons had been discovered. The responsibility for naming was taken by John Herschel, son of the discoverer of Uranus. Herschel, instead of assigning names from Greek mythology, named the moons after magical spirits in English literature: the fairies Oberon and Titania from William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, and the sylphs Ariel and Umbriel from Alexander Pope's The Rape of the Lock (Ariel is also a sprite in Shakespeare's The Tempest). The reasoning was presumably that Uranus, as god of the sky and air, would be attended by spirits of the air."

Triton 2037 - Div35 Pickup (obsolete)

Updated here.

Pickup, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., 4 SD Tires back + 2 PR-Radials front, Super PP, Driver; Heavy Laser front, VMG (20/reg) in turret, Hi-Res Comp., 20 pts WG/WH, 209 pts Plastic Armor: F50 B40 R40 L40 T20 U19; HC 3, Acc. 5. 7799 lbs. $34,148
  • Ram Option- add Ramplate, FP armor, replace HR with TC, Armor: F40(ram), B40 L35 R35 U19 T20, $37,706
Combat Record - Both versions!
  • Original: 1 shot from HL, 3 hits to front left wheel.
  • Ram Option: 18 hits to front, 13 to right, hard to see the rest of hits/shots.
Design Notes - This is obsolete because of the old rule that allowed different tires for front and back with no loss of HC, in fact it was the chosen way to use the *only* radial that was allowed, PR-R. I suspect it should be improved... the attraction to make this a camper and use a 3 space turret is high, but it should probably be avoided.

Name Notes - Triton is a moon of Neptune.

War Pig - RPG Std. Copter

Std. Chopper, Super PP, driver & 1 passenger, HL in 3 sp. UM turret (facing rear), 2 linked AC front, 3 cluster bombs, 889 pts. Armor: F200, R140, L140, B140, T89, U180, Acc. 5, HC 2, 19996 lbs., $122,270

Combat record
  • 41 hits front, 45 to L, 15 to top, 10 to R, and 1 pt. each to all internals (fire?)
  • Did I even fire my guns?

Design Notes: This was in some scenario, either a dogfight or fighting more than one ground vehicle (maybe an agreed upon limit of $125K?). Choppers, like trucks, were designed late enough in Car Wars history that they were more logical in allowing enormous weaponry and armor. Fun fights but air-war can last a long time.

Name Notes: Original name was "L20-#6605"

[Updated Nov 10, 2013]

Havoc - Div75 Small Copter (Combat)

Small Copter, Small PP, Pilot, 2 linked Lasers front, 3 CB, Hi-Res computer; 260 pts. Armor: F60, R45, L45, B40, U50, T20; Acc. 5, HC 2, 8000 lbs., $60,800

Combat record: 30 hits to rear, not much else.

Design notes: Like with bikes, copters started off very simple without many doodads. And unless you like 3D-Tic-Tac-Toe, multiple bogey chopper duels can get prohibitively complicated. Still, I liked the ability to pile on armor with heavy weaponry.

[Updated Nov 10, 2013]

Zephyr 2037 - Div3Q Medium Cycle

Medium Cycle, Hvy Sus., Med. Cycle PP, 2 PRR, RL front, Targ. Comp., 38 pts Armor: F19 B19; Acc. 10, HC 3; 1100 lbs., $5668

Combat record:
  • 8 shots to rear tire, 2 to front tire, destroyed RL.

2057 Option: SWC (shows you how old this design is); $5168

Design Notes: In the old days there wasn't much to do with motorcycles. They're meant to travel in packs and are basically mobile gun platforms. In recent years there have been more accessories that make them a bit less vanilla.

Iapetus 2037 - Div30 Van (Galaxy) (Obsolete)

Updated here.

Van, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Super PP, driver, 2 gunners, 4 SD tires back, 2 PR tires front, AC in 3 sp. turret, 2 linked RL front, RL back, SS back, 3 targeting computers, 94 pts. Armor: F20, R17, L17, B20, T10, U10. Acc. 5, HC 2, 7191 lbs. $29,850

Combat record
  • 20 hits to front, front RLs destroyed, rear RL1 hit, SS hit
  • ugh. Front breached swiftly..

Design Notes: Can't have two gunners anymore. Even then, 94 pts of armor? No wonder I was torn to shreds. I should make a motto for 2037 Styx Motors: "If You Have No Armor Left But Plenty of Ammo, You're in a Styx"

Name note: Iapetus is a moon of Saturn.

[Updated Nov 10, 2013]

Tethys 2037 - Div30 Van (Galaxy)

Updated here.

Van, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 SD tires back, 2 PR front, 3 linked MML in turret, 2 linked RR front with mags., MD back with mag, 5 PS (B,R,L, corner L & R). Defenses linked every which way. Targ. Comp. 100 pts. Armor: F20 R17 L17 B20 U10 T11; Acc. 5, HC 2, 7195, $27,750

Combat record:
  • Dead meat.
  • MMLs fired once, RRs once, defenses nil,
  • left hit 8, back breached, all rear weapons destroyed, driver, 4 hits to PP.
  • Ugh.

Design Notes: Another one in my long string of combat poor vans. All that space with way too heavy armor. And why no freakin' gunners? A gunner should be van standard equipment!

Name Notes: Tethys is a moon of Saturn.   And this is the handmade counter I made for this:

[Updated Nov 12, 2013]

Bonodell - Div60 (65) Pickup

Updated Here.
Pickup, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 6 SD tires, 2 linked GG front, cyberlink, no-paint windshield, 281 pts. FP armor: F70, R60, L60, B50, T20, U21; Acc. 5, HC 2; 7791 lbs., $59,564

Bonodell 2 Option - remove 33 pts. Armor, add 60 pt. ramplate & bumper trigger, F60 L50 R50 B50 T19 U19, driver with IBA, $62,122

Combat Record 1 (Bonodell 1): shots: 2 each; 20 hits to front, 18 top, 6 left, 4 right, 18 bottom; TIRES: FL 12 hits, ML (Middle Left) 4, BL 8,  FR 10 hits, MR 6, BR 6; PP 3 hits, Driver 3 hits (ooooh)

Combat Record 2 (Bonodell 2): 50 hits to front, 3 shots each for GG

Design Notes - Finally, the pickups. My body of choice for unlimited duels, and my combination of choice are Gauss Guns with a cyberlink. It has the highest space/weight/damage ratio, price is no object, and I need armor & handling more than weponry in that price class. There are a number of modernized variations.

Crusade 2037 - Div20 Luxury (Combat)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver, 2 linked VMG front, 2 un-linked HR front, RL rear, Spear MD rear with mag (9 shots); 164 pts. Plastic Armor: F40 R30 L30 B30 T14 U20; Acc. 5, HC 3, 6595 lbs., $19,980

  • "Holy Crusade" Option  Incendiary ammo in VMG, prox. fuses for MD, bumper triggers F & B, targ. Computer $22,830
  • "First Crusade" Option  remove HRs, add gunner + 5 pts. Armor; $19,680

Combat record:
  • very bad in combat;
  • driver in BA;
  • 4 hits to each rear tire, 5 to each front; L breached, R 7 hits,
  • F 50 hits over breach; destroyed front weapons, PP, driver.

Design Notes - Another over-gunned car, especially in the original design ("First" was updated a year ago).  I can see from the original scan that this was made after my architectural drafting.

Callisto 2037 - Div35 Luxury (Galaxy)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, Driver (Body Armor), GG with mag front, 2 RL (R & L, linked!), MD with mag rear, ramplate, targ. comp., no paint windshield, 7 smoke dischargers, 4 bumper triggers, body armor for driver. 2 10 pt. WG rear, 164 pts. FP armor: F50 (ram) R30 L30 B30 U20 T4; Acc. 5, HC 3, 6600 lbs, $34,660

Combat record:
  • I went into combat, in Div35, in this turkey?
  • Gads. Twice!
  • 4 shots from GG, 1 from L RL, 5 from MD and rear SD,
  • Tires were hit a lot: FL 8, FR 3, BL 6, BR 8 (nothing to WG);
  • Lots of hits all around but I think I won. Was I fighting a marshmallow?
Design notes: A rolling turkey. Linked RL on either side of the car? Why not a turret, eh? And then put the GG in there! I believe I rejiggered this for 2057 because, hey, a win is a win.

Note, Callisto is a moon of Jupiter. Image below from here.

[Updated Nov 15, 2013]

Antiped Prime - RPG Luxury (Combat)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 SD tires, 2 linked FG in turret, 2 linked GL front & back with tear gas loads, ejector seat, target comp., body armor included. 4 10 pt. WG and WH on each wheel; 137 pts. FP plastic Armor: F30 R25 L25 B25 T10 U12;  Acc. 5, HC 2; 6600 lbs; $24,680

Combat record:
  • F 12 hits, R 23 hits, B 4 hits, L 4 hits,
  • 4 shots from GL front, 2 shots back,
  • note the tires are untouched,
  • who was I fighting? Bikers?
  • Also what was with me and no gunners? It's all about the designing with no foresight to how things are actually played.

Design Notes: I have to give my past self credit for actually playtesting some of my stupid ideas. Not enough, I guess. Like Antiped iv (compact) this was part of a design journey to explore the idiocy of anti-pedestrian tactics. Answer me this: why in the fantasy world of Car Wars 2035 did anyone care about using tear gas? I'd say that in the Car Wars RPG a flaming paint cloud is the new tear gas.

This reminds me of what a sick friend of mine said, back in 1985, when I asked about Agent Orange. AO was a defoliant we used on our own troops during Vietnam. I asked what defoliant did we use on the enemy troops and he responded "napalm."

Name Notes:  Original name was just "Anteeped."
[Updated Nov 4, 2013]

Hotdog 2037 - Div25 Luxury (Combat)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver (in BA), RR with mag in turret, MFR front, HDFOJ back, bumper trigger front, active suspension, spoiler & airdam, roll cage, SWC to RR, 4x10 pt WG; 141 pts. plastic Armor: F35 (ram) R24 L24 B28 U15 T15; HC 3, Acc 5, 6600 lbs. $24,720

Combat record:
  • HITS: 4 hits front, 3 R, 35 hits to left (2 went to FOJ, 5 to PP, 2 to driver, 2 to MFR).
  • SHOTS: RR 1, MFR?
  • I may have won.

Design notes - I had this design phase where I was putting magazines in the 10 shot weapons. Nowadays I reduce VMG to 10 just to buy more armor. The roll cage is rare for me, too. Statistically, is it better to have a MFR or two HRs for 'ram rockets'?

Note,  this is likely one of the earliest designs I made, based on the above art.  And that means that I knew about fancy stuff, SWCs or active suspension, early on.  Actually, since I owned only 3 Car Wars items (the original box set, Truck Stop, and Uncle Al's 2035 guide), that could date this car to when I got Uncle Al.

Name notes - The original name for this care was "Hatcha."

Above image, used in the 2057 write-up, from here

[Updated Nov 8, 2013]

Miranda 2037 - Div25 Luxury (Galaxy)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver & gunner, 4 SD tires,  AC with mag front, RL with mag in turret, MD back, bumper trigger front, 2 SWC to RL, 167 pts. Plastic armor: F40 B30 R33 L33 T20 U11; Acc 5, HC 3, 6595 lbs., $24,910

Combat record:
  • 4 shots from RL, 6 from MD,
  • 9 hits on BL tire.
  • Erasures make it hard to see how many from the AC (if any) which would be revealing for the turret vs. big front weapon debate.

Design notes - Good crew, good armor number, I do think that unguided RL in Div25 is bad planning (and I probably missed a lot). My love of Autocannons blinds me every time.

Name Notes - This is an original name, and  I'm assuming considering how early this was named (see the handwriting), is after the moon of Uranus.

Image from here.

[Updated Nov 11, 2013]

Uranus 2037 - Div20 Luxury (Galaxy) (Combat)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 SD tires, RL with mag front, RR with 2 mags in turret, 2 OJ linked Back (on L&R corners). Targ. Comp. 2 10 pt WG rear, 202 pts plastic armor: F50 R40 L40 B35 T19 U18, Acc. 5, HC 3, 6595 lbs., $19,990
  • Option 1: remove 1 pt. armor, convert OJ to FOJ
  • Option 2: all extra mags are interchangeable (in cost & weight)

Combat record
  • Holy cow, the OJs must have been on auto, 15 shots each.
  • 3 shots for RL, 10 for RR.
  • Tires took a beating: RF 11, LF 10, RB 8, LB 6; WG R 10, WG L 7,
  • F armor took 35 hits, R 28, L 38!, Top full 19, U: 16, was I on fire?
  • Did I win??

Design Notes: I like the armor, but with so many weapons, I need a gunner (and who needs so many mags, although a full 10 for the RR, whoa).

[Updated Nov 13, 2013]

Fumagore - Div50 Luxury (Combat)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Super PP, driver & gunner, 4 Solid tires, 2 linked GG front, RGM back, MD back, 2 hi-res computers, 170 pts. Plastic Armor F40 R30 L30 B35 T15 U20; Acc. 5, HC 3, 6600 lbs, $48,200.

  • Option "Fumagore II" -  downgrade tires to PR, take out 1 HRTC add cyberlink to GGs - $59,000
Combat record
  • SHOTS: 1 shot each for all weapons,
  • HITS: left armor 15 hits; front armor breached, GGs destroyed, PP 2 hits;
  • TIRES: lost LF wheel (weapon damage), LB, RF 2 hits, RB 7 hits,
  • I won!
Design Notes - A decent (winning design) with good armor and nasty weapons. In those simple, under-accessoried days, the high end cars put the money in weapons. This could use an update.

[Updated Nov 3, 2013 - added old picture, and the modifications]

Hazor - Div30 Luxury (Combat)

Luxury, Xhvy. Ch, Hvy Sus, Super PP, driver, 4 PR tires, RL in turret, 2 linked ACs with mags front, ramplate, SWC to RL, 132 pts Plastic armor F30 (ram) R25 L25 B22 T15 U15; HC 3, Acc. 5,  6600 lbs., $29,590

Combat record:
  • 3 shots from AC,
  • 6 hits to R, 5 hits Front, tires all have 2 hits
  • (I won?)

Design Notes: Over-armed and underarmored. Yet I may have won (fighting a sick nun, no doubt).

[Updated Nov 10, 2013]
