Omega 60 - Div60 Pickup (Retool)

As stated here, I wanted to update the cars from the AADA Car Guide vol. 3 (see first attempt here).  Even with my untrained eye, I knew the designs were problematic.  But that was just about the *ideas* behind the car.  Since then, I've read that every design is actually against the rules.  Here's another example:

Original (as Claimed in the Book):  Camper, X-Hvy. Ch., Heavy Sus., 450 cid IC (VP), 15-gal. Duelling tank, 6 Plasticore Tires, driver, MFR (B) 2 AP MRs (F) 4 FCD (2U.1R, 1L) 2TLs (1F, 1B), ramplate, Spoiler (no airdam), Safety seat, 3 Links (FCD R-FCD L. MFR-MRs. 2 U FCDs), HRTC. LGL (8 rockets), HD brakes, ABS. Overdrive, No-paint windshield, 5 Blow-through concealments (MRs. TLs. and MFR), 4 fake WG/WH, 169 pts FP plastic armor: F65 (Ram) R30 L30 B30 T6 U8; HC: 2 (3), Acc 20, Top 132.5, 7,797 lbs, $59,449

Problems:  From a design perspective: A ramcar with HC 2?  Medium Rockets, in a pickup?  No wheelguards?? Why not put 1 TL in a zero space turret?  Who needs the BTC?  Top and U armor is laughable for div60.

But from a factual perspective, according to my calculations,  the car is 255 lbs overweight, does not have enough gas (it needs a 16 gal tank, which adds 16 lbs and 1 space).  It's total weight is 8055 lbs, $58,943.  It also has 1 space left (maybe for the tank?  I added it).  To make it legal without changing the whole essence, you'd need to take away 20 pts armor. That's leave: 7791 lbs, $57,808.  Put another way:
Camper, X-Hvy. Ch., Heavy Sus., 450 cid IC (VP), 16-gal. Duelling tank, 6 Plasticore Tires, driver, MFR (B) 2 AP MRs (F) 4 FCD (2U.1R, 1L) 2TLs (1F, 1B), ramplate, Spoiler (no airdam), Safety seat, 3 Links (FCD R-FCD L. MFR-MRs. 2 U FCDs), HRTC. LGL (8 rockets), HD brakes, ABS. Overdrive, No-paint windshield, 5 Blow-through concealments (MRs. TLs. and MFR), 4 fake WG/WH, 149 pts FP plastic armor: F65 (Ram) R25 L25 B20 T6 U8; HC: 2, Acc 20, Top 132.5, 7791 lbs, $57,808

And this is without redesigning this turkey.  Here's a set of attempted updates:

First Attempt:  Camper, X-Hvy. Ch., Heavy Sus., 300 cid IC (Blue/VP/Spr), 10-gal. Duelling tank, 6 Plasticore Tires, driver, MFR (B) 2 AP MRs (F) 4 FCD (2U.1R, 1L) 2TLs (1F, 1B), ramplate, Spoiler & Airdam, Safety seat, 3 Links (FCD R-FCD L. MFR-MRs. 2 U FCDs), HRTC. LGL (8 rockets), HD brakes, ABS. Overdrive, No-paint windshield, 5 Blow-through concealments (MRs. TLs. and MFR), 4 fake WG/WH, 9 pts LRFP Component Armor each around (a) driver, (b) engine (c) gas tank; 157 pts FP plastic armor: F45 (Ram) R30, L30. B30, T7, U15 HC: 2 (3), Acc 20, Top 112.5 (overdrive 132.5), 7,800 lbs, $61,623

  • First Attempt Notes: Originally, I changed the 2 TLs to 1 in a zero-space turret. Except that the original needed to have idiotic blow-thru-concealment! So what would be better: (1) a zero-space pop-up turret for 1 TL (my first fix) but this is 1 more space, 100 more pounds than just 2 TL!  (2) a zero-space turret with a fake turret on top.  But that is also an unnecssary 50 lbs! so (3) I just kept the 2 stupid lasers, and used the space I saved by shrinking the engine on a spliff-load of component armor.

Second Attempt: Pickup , Heavy. Ch., Heavy Sus., 300 cid IC (Tubes/Blue/VP), 10-gal. Duelling tank, 4 Plasticore Tires, driver, MFR (B) 2 AP MRs (F) 4 FCD (2U.1R, 1L) 2TLs (1F, 1B), ramplate, active suspension, Spoiler & Airdam, Safety seat, 3 Links (FCD R-FCD L. MFR-MRs. 2 U FCDs), HRTC. LGL (8 rockets), HD brakes, ABS. Overdrive, No-paint windshield, 5 Blow-through concealments (MRs. TLs. and MFR), 39 points FP WG/WH; 195 pts FP plastic armor: F65 (Ram) R35, L35, B35, T10, U15; HC: 3 (4), Acc 15, Top 105 (overdrive 125), 7,148.5 lbs, $59,530

  • Second Attempt Notes: After making the first version, I realized that after shrinking the engine to a manageable size, I had a lot of room left over.  While I love Component Armor, I thought if I reduced this to a regular pickup, there's be more regular armor.  When I did that, I needed to toss the supercharger, and then I had a HUGE amount of weight left over.  Even after raising the ramplate back to 65, and adding active suspension and full wheelguards, I  had so much weight left over that I didn't think I could make the div60 cutoff.  So I made the chassis Heavy - which not only changed the cost, but allowed me to drop 2 tires.

Third Attempt: Pickup , Extra Heavy Chassis, Heavy Sus., 300 cid IC (Tubes/Blue/VP), 10-gal. Duelling tank, 6 Steelbelted-Radial-FP Solid Tires, driver, MFR (B) 2 AP MRs (F) 4 FCD (2U.1R, 1L) 2TLs (1F, 1B), ramplate, active suspension, Spoiler & Airdam, Safety seat, 3 Links (FCD R-FCD L. MFR-MRs. 2 U FCDs), HRTC. LGL (8 rockets), HD brakes, ABS. Overdrive, No-paint windshield, 5 Blow-through concealments (MRs. TLs. and MFR), 38 points FP WG/WH; 111 pts composite Armor (36 LR Metal/75 reg Plastic armor): F13/10 (Ram) R8/13, L8/13, B7/13, T0/10, U0/16; HC: 4 (5), Acc. 15, Top 100 (overdrive 120), 7,799.5 lbs, $59,997.75

  • Third Attempt Notes:  Since I had so much weight left over in the second attempt, I decided to see what metal armor would allow with an extra-heavy chassis, especially if it allowed me to change tires to the best available. I dropped the plastic FP armor to save some money, especially as the tires were FP.

That's all I'm willing to polish this turkey.

* Styx Defensive System = 6 Smoke Dischargers linked to 5 laser reactive webs (F, B, R, L, T; covering tires of those sides as well) & 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons)

Design Notes - This was in my draft folder dated Oct 16 2010, named "yrt" (don't remember what that means). I kept the ramplate despite not having any credible reason to do so.  As such, I won't label it a "ramcar" because you need a bit more of acceleration for that.  Hence the gas option, which to maintain the weapon system (and thus the identity) I needed to either throw out component armor or make it extended cab.  I chose the latter.

Name Notes - Themisto is a moon of Jupiter: "also known as Jupiter XVIII, is a small prograde irregular satellite of Jupiter. It was discovered in 1975, lost, and then rediscovered in 2000." ... "In October 2002 it was officially named after Themisto, daughter of the river god Inachus and lover of Zeus (Jupiter) in Greek mythology."

Design Notes - I was looking at this 2009 design and felt it needed updating, specifically to get rid of the C/A frame, to do that effectively, I needed to go gas:
Luxury (C/A frame), XHvy Chassis, Hvy-Active Suspension, Sport PP (PC/SC), 4 Solid (FP-Radial-StB) tires, driver, 2 linked HMG (20/HD ammo) in turret, FOJ (25/reg) back, 8 dischargers (2 R,L,T,U & 1 F,B - 4 oil, 4 ice, 2 hot-smoke), cyberlink to HMG, IFE, HDHTM & overdrive (each linked to HMG & as well as HMG-FOJ link), Anti-Lock Heavy Duty Brakes, Heavy Duty Shocks, spoiler & airdam, Fake Ramplate, no paint tinted windshield; 4 bumper triggers linked to side's dischargers, 9 pts LRFP CA each around driver, PP and FOJ; driver has blended BA, 2 8 pt WH front & 2 7 pt WH front(all LRFP), 170 pts sloped plastic FPLR armor (F32 B32 R35 L35 U16 T20); Acc 10 (20), Top 122.5 (142.5 overdrive, 80 HDHTM), HC 5 (6), 6600 lbs, $86,705
I see no real reason to use the big engine option now that I've done the calculations.  And the Div35 version may not be half bad.

Name Notes - This is part of the Amber series.  Benedict is the strongest one of the brothers, so I wanted a very strong car.

Aegaeon 2037 - Div20 Midsized (Galaxy)

Updated here.
Midsized, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Large PP, 4 Solid Tires, Driver (no equip); RL (20/reg) in turret, MD (10/reg) back, ramplate, FE, HRTC, 218 pts sloped Plastic Armor: F 50 (ram) B 40 R 40 L 40 T 28 U 20; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 2000, 5759 lbs., $19,338.00

Design Notes - As the image above shows, this is an original unnamed 2037 design.  And it's terrible.  I made it a div20 because, without the advanced tools available today, I didn't know what to do to make $15,338 into div15... And of course, the freakin' ramplate. I looooooved ramplates.

Name Notes - The original was unnamed. Aegaeon is the most recently discovered moon ofSaturn, and is a monster from Greek mythology ("one of the hecatonchires", see here).

[Major update on Nov 26, 2013 - I moved the 2063 version elsewhere]

Design Notes -  This started as a simple idea for how to get 3 internal smartlinked pulse lasers (3x3d+3), for an average of 40 points of damage on a successful hit, with that on a 4 or above.  I wanted internal to avoid the EWP problem, but the option is above (EWP weigh a lot!).

Name Notes -  Surtur is a moon of Saturn and another Norse God, as seen in this Dungeon & Dragon's pic:

Design Notes -In my draft files under this name, dated Nov 14, 2012.  For the primary entry, I changed the system to allow for the Styx Laser Paint Array. Also, even though the final price is 579$ over the div50 limit, I'm not going to tweak it any more to fit that arbitrary cut off - the eventual driver can do that in whatever way they want.  Same thing for the div30.

Anyway, I like this car - there's a decent weapon system with a lot of weight left over for decent armor as well as many safety doodads: full 10 pt WG/WH, rollcage, safety seat, IFE.   This may actually be a decent "touring" car for going town to town. except for the RR's limited ammo... so much so, that I decided to now make the "touring" version.

Stuff to have in Car Wars

As I only get into Car Wars every year in the early fall (I don't know why, but that is really what happens), I missed the announcement that they are going to be making a 6th edition.  I need to write the SJG folks with all my wonderful obsessive points and plans.  But even if the 6e stinks, I probably will stay in 2.5e with just a lot of home-brewed ideas.

For some reason, this part of the game is my favorite, hence all my posts under the tag "weapon analysis".  I don't want full verisimilitude, but I think there needs to be some correspondence to what is useful in current anti-tank warfare (which is what CW is).

Part of the problem in calibrating the CW-RW (Car Wars - Real World) correspondence is that CW was slapped together with different mentalities over the 12 or so years of it's heyday (1981 to 1992; CWC2.5e was 1990, UACFH was 1992... although the pdf of CWC2.5 lists 1996 & 1998, so I wonder if that book is now more authoritative.)

I go through this part of the CW project/obsession every year as well.  It starts with analyzing the weapons, like the "The State of the Art, 2039,Part I", by Craig Sheeley and Charles Oines (and HTMLized by Gustav Dahlström); see all my blog posts for the whole Sturm und Drang.

What I want to do with this post is to get the notes down of what I think needs to be added, for now (unless noted, all pictures are from the linked Wiki article):
  • Personal equipmentPistol Gripped Sawed Off Double Barreled Shotgun (PGSODBSG, or "Mad Max Gun" or even "Bronze Gun").  As I tipped off, this is the weapon of the police force, the Bronze, in the Mad Max movies.  And how can that *not* be in Car Wars?! (Note, the pic below is  from Rage, a computer game that came out in 2011, and I totally missed it!  It looks like a Mad Max/CW hybrid game, coooooool!)
  • Mini-Multiple-Fire-Rocket-Pod (I wrote it up already, here). Cloest to the Hydra 70mm rocket system.
  • Minigun - 30 cal gatling gun.  I've written about it here, and here, and I realize that I really should consolidate all of this.  Hrm.
  • Grenade Machine Gun (GMG) - like the Mk 19, which was used even in Vietnam.
  • 25mm Chain Gun - the famed M242 Bushmaster, which could possibly be the CW "Autocannon"
  • 20mm Autocannon - like the famed 20mm Oerlikon, back in use since WWII!, which could be the CW "heavy machine gun"
  • 40mm Bofors - This may be too big for standard CW vehicles.Still, it's an old military standby, in use since 1934!
  • 30mm Avenger - Oh baby, the best of the best, the 30mm GAU-8 Avenger.  For all I know, this could be the RFTG (6 spaces), the HVMG (3), or the GC (5).
  • 25mm Equalizer - A lesser known Avenger type. To quote from the Wiki: "GAU-12/U Equalizer is a five-barrel 25 mm Gatling-type rotary cannon." (Pic from here).  Same quetions as above, is this the HMVG or GC?
I can add more later, but that's all for the ballistic weapon system.  Most antitank weapons nowadays are actually missiles and as far as I can tell, most of the missiles have been taken care of with the Aeroduel nonsense.  Since most CW cars are designed to carry laser guided rockets, that actually fits the current state of the art, and that wasn't the full intention of the CW designers.  Which shows that it actually makes sense.

Design Notes -This was in my draft pile dated Oct 8, 2010 and temp named "metal div5" which gives the 'high concept' behind the design.  In the Div5 options, I think it's probably better to have an RR than a RL with a I also felt committed to using the HRSWC on the Div10 versions, even at the expense of armor; I need to test the efficacy of that.

Tarqeq - Div15, Div5 Subcompact (Galaxy)

Subcompact (Carbon-Aluminum Frame), Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 Radial-Solid Tires, Driver (in BA); VMG (20/reg) front, 8 foam dischargers, 2 smoke/oil dischargers, 40 pts WG/WH, 116 pts Plastic Armor: F 25 B 25 R 22 L 22 T 10 U 12 HC 5, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 920, 2760 lbs., $14,976.00

  • Div5 Option - Subcompact, Heavy Ch., Imp. Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 HD Tires, Driver; VMG (10/reg) front, 56 pts Composite Armor (2 Metal/54 Plastic): F 2/10 BRL 0/10 TU 0/7  HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 95, Pwr 920, 2530 lbs., $4,999.00

Design Notes - Ya know, I like the Div5 the best.  This was in my draft box dated Sept 5, 2010.  I think it was a design experiment for a subcompact with a VMG.  Vans like subcompacts tempt you to use C/A but it's best to resist. I wonder if we should redo the rules on subs like I want for vans (because this is a sign of how flawed the rules are on this).

One idea, I'm wondering if we should allow cycle engines for subcompacts?

Name Notes - Tarqeq is a moon of Saturn, named after an Inuit moon god.  Well, at least it's a moon, eh Tarqeq?

Siarnaq - Div40 Midsized (Galaxy)

Midsized (Streamlined), Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., 200 cid IC engine (Tubes/Blue/VP/Spr), 6 gal dueling gas tank, 4 FP-Radial-Steelbelted-Solid Tires, Driver (no equip); ramplate, active suspension, roll-cage, safety seat, spoilers & airdams, fake weapons (laser front), overdrive, 4 oil dischargers (FBRL) 6 smoke dischargers (2T, 2U, 1R 1L): smoke linked to 5 laser reactive webs (F, B, R, L, T) and 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons); 35 pts WG/WH, 9 pts LRFP CA each around PP/gas tank (7sp) and driver (2sp), 109 pts sloped composite Armor (26 LR metal/83 Plastic): F 12/10 (ram) B 6/14 R 4/16 L 4/16 T 0/12 U 0/15 HC 5 (6), Acc. 20 (Overdrive 10), Top 115  (135), MPG  37.4, 5759.4 lbs., $39,119.40

Design Notes -This was in my draft file as "major rammer."  It started as a sedan - which is a so far useless size for me - but I had too much space, so I downgraded to midsize and as Goldilocks says, 'just right.'  I did try to put in rocket boosters in the sedan, but I had no idea how to do it.  Also, in the original design, I forgot the ramplate.  Oops.

Do I need an offensive weapon?

Name Notes -Siarnaq (pronounced: "SEE-ar-nahk") is a moon of Saturn, one of the Inuit group.

Superflash 2063 - Div25 Compact (Updated)

Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Large PP (PC & SC), 4 FP-Radial Tires, Driver (no equip); MG (10/reg) in 1sp turret, ramplate, SWC, HD-antilock brakes, active suspension, HD shocks, HDHTM, overdrive, safety seat, roll-cage, spoiler & airdam, 4 oil dischargers (FBRL) 4 smoke dischargers (2T, 2U): smoke linked to 5 laser reactive webs (F, B, R, L, T) and 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons); 20 pts WG/WH, 150 pts sloped Plastic Armor: F 40 (ram) B 30 R 30 L 30 T 10 U 10; HC 5 (6), Acc. 10 (HDHTM 20/Overdrive 5), Top 120 (80/140), Pwr 2300, 4440 lbs., $24,028.00

Design Notes -The original obsolete design is here:
Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Medium PP, driver, 2 PR tires back 2 PRR front, VMG in turret, SS back, 162 pts. Armor: F30 (ram) L31 R31 B30 T20 U20; 4 5pt WG, Acc. 5, HC 3, 4437 lbs $12,041

It's obsolete because it has a 2 space turret, and mismatched tires. Those are from the game changing.  The other detriments are from my not understanding how to make a ram car.  To make this an upgrade, I felt I needed to keep a MG of a type in a turret, the SS became all the dischargers, and I kept the rammer.  I put in all the stuff ramcars love, except for rocket boosters, which I still don't know how to use.

Atlas - Div60 Van (Galaxy)

Type: Van, (Streamlined), Chassis: Xtra-Heavy, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Sport PP (PC & SC) (Pwr 3795), Tires: 6 FP-Radial-PR Tires, Crew: Driver (no equip) & Gunner (no equip), Weaponry: VFRP (30/AP) in 3sp turret, ITL + LGL to 30 rockets in turret, HDID (10/reg) back, PS (25/reg) under as part of the Styx Laser Paint Array, DSP under, Weighted Accessories: n/a, Unweighted Accessories: 2 HRSWC, HD-antilock brakes, HTM & Overdrive (linked), no-paint windshield, [6 total links], Dischargers: 10 dischargers: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 smoke (2T, 2U, 1R 1L), Defenses: Smoke Dischargers linked to 5 laser reactive webs (F, B, R, L, T; covering tires of those sides as well); 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons); Wheel Armor: 2x10 pt WG rear, 2x10 pt WH front, Component Armor:  Power Plant = 9 pts LRFP over 5 spaces, Driver = 9 pts LRFP over 2 spaces, Gunner = 9 pts LRFP over 2 spaces Cargo: 6 spaces, 2 lbs. 145 pts sloped FP Plastic Armor: F(30) B(30) R(30) L(30) T(18) U(7); HC: 3, Acc. 5 (HTM 10/Overdrive 2.5),  Top Speed 127.5 (95/147.5), Weight: 7198 lbs. Max 7200, Cost: $59,670.00
  • Gas Option -   [replace electric with gas engine; no streamlining, change tires to solids, add IFE, change CA system, dock some WG armor]:  Van, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., 200 cid IC engine (Tubes/Blue/VP/Spr), 6 gal. dueling gas tank, 6 FP-Radial-Solid Tires, Driver (no equip) & Gunner (no equip); VFRP (30/AP) in 3sp turret, ITL + LGL to 30 rockets in turret, HDID (10/reg) back, PS (25/reg) as part of the Styx Laser Paint Array, DSP under, IFE, 2 HRSWC, HD-antilock brakes, no-paint windshield, overdrive, 4 oil dischargers (FBRL) 6 smoke dischargers (2T, 2U, 1R 1L): smoke linked to 5 laser reactive webs (F, B, R, L, T) and 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons); 37 pts WG/WH, 9 pts LRFP CA each around (a) PP (b) gas tank and (c) driver, 145 pts sloped FP Plastic Armor: F30 B30 R30 L30 T18 U7; HC 3, Acc. 20 (Overdrive 10), Top 90 (110), MPG 34, Range 204, 7198.4 lbs., $73,950.00

Design Notes - This was in my draft pile entitled "decent van," and that ain't wrong.  This has my Styx Laser Paint Array (see here), which works well for vans.  Rockets are made for vans as well.  I just noticed that with HTM I have 10 acceleration with a top speed of 95.  Just keep that mysterious gamebreaking tech on from the start, baby!

Name Notes - Atlas is one of the moons of Saturn, and a strong dude from Greek mythology.

Nifty Idea - Laser Paint Array

I don't know if this works, but I am proffering it as a nifty idea to be tested.  The working title is the Styx Laser Paint Array. This requires:
  1. 4-5 laser reactive webs
  2. a PS with a full load, and hooked up under the car so that if fired, it will put a paint cloud on the car itself.
  3. a no-paint windshield (critical)
  4. all of the webs hooked up to trigger the PS.  I think 1 link should take care of this; each array already costs a link each (as far as I know), and I'm rules-ruling that 1 is enough.
As you can piece together, the idea is that if any of the webs is triggered by a laser, the PS will fire.  PS (as opposed to SS) have 25 shots, so this will work for a whole battle.  With the no-paint windshield, your car will be unaffected (except for a constant paint bath; I recommend using glossy black), except if you have laser weapons - not a small drawback.

Total Styx Laser Paint Array system is: $2200, 75lb, 1 space, 2 DP =  (5 webs $500, 1 link $50, NPW $1000, PS $650/75/1/2).

Feedback desired.

Hekaton 2063 - RPG Luxury (Galaxy)

Type: Luxury, Chassis: Xhvy, Suspension: Hvy., Engine: Large PP (PC & SC, Pwr 2300), Tires: 4 FP-Solids, Crew: Driver & 2 passengers (all 3 have Blended BA & FP suits); Weaponry: 2 MG (20/incen) in turret, FOJ (25/reg) back, PS (25/normal) back, defenses linked, Weighted Accessories: rollcage, 3 safety seats, FE, Unweighted Accessories: HRSWC, HD-Antilock brakes, HTM, overdrive, tinted no-paint windshield, LDR, surge protector, anti-theft system; [7 total links]; Dischargers: 10 total: 4 oil (FBRL) 6 smoke (2T, 2U, 1R 1L); Defenses: Styx Defensive System*; Wheel Armor: 24 pts WG/WH, Component Armor: 9 pts LRFP each for (a) PP [5 sp.] and (b) driver and passenger area [4 sp.], Vehicle Armor: 150 pts Plastic: F(30) B(30) R(30) L(30) T(15) U(15); HC 3, Acc. 5 (HTM 10/Overdrive 2.5), Top 92.5 (67.5/112.5), Weight: 6598 lbs., (6600 Max), Cost: $40,580.00

* Styx Defensive System = 6 Smoke Dischargers linked to 5 laser reactive webs (F, B, R, L, T; covering tires of those sides as well) & 4 bumper triggers (to oil & also linked to that side's weapons)
  • Option - load MGs with 10 shots each, upgrade FE to IFE; save $550

  • Option - exchange MGs for a VMG with 10 shots; save $975
Design Notes -This was in my draft file, dated Oct 16, 2011.  It's a passenger car for the highway.  It's been so long since I've thought in a RPG way, that I don't remember what things would be needed (I've added a few, like the radio).  The WG/WH are thinner than I'd like because of the personal equipment.  That's 24 lbs - 6 WG - that can be added.  True, I could've taken it off the main armor, but if I see any car with less than 30 on a side, I think it's dead meat.

Originally this had my "Golden Triangle" of weapons: (1) VMG, (2) FOJ, (3) MD.  I changed VMG because of weight and the MD because I wanted a space for the FE.

What I need to determine is if a rollcage, and FE for that matter, worth less WG and/or vehicular armor?

Name Notes -Hekaton is short for the Hecatonchires - the freaky looking 100 armed dudes in Greek mythology.  This is the named group for a set of some of the moons of Saturn.

Ah for the days of the full turreted compacts.  Ah well.  Anyway, I'm wondering if the Div15 is a decent option.  BTW, I tried to get it down to div10 and that won't work.  Maybe a trike?  But, as you can see from my site, I just don't understand trikes; are they even allowed in regular duels?  I recall that bikes aren't allowed, but it has been 30 years.

Update: I added the second div15 option because, uh, it actually reflected the original better, but with CA.

Design Notes -Originally: Luxury, C/A Frame, Xhvy Ch., Hvy.-Active Sus, Large PP (PC/SC), driver & gunner, 4 SD-FP-Steel-Radial tires, AC front (10/incen), VMG in turret (20/incen), OG (10/reg) back, IFE, 2 Hires. Comp., HD-Antilock brakes; no-paint windshield, 10 pts. FP-CA around crew, 2 10 pt. FP WG/WH front/back, blended BA & FP suit for crew; 185 pts. Plastic armor: F35 B30 R40 L40 T20 U20; Acc. 5, Top 92.5, HC 5, 6596 lbs., $69,025

The main design plan was to get rid of the C/A frame, and to follow consensus that the AC is a terrible weapon in CW (and despite my heart's direction - for I know and feel that the AC should be WAY BETTER).  I also realized that gas engines are a must for the upper price divisions - same power, but lighter weight.  Yet since I haven't playtested, I have no idea if the fire problems are too prohibitive.

  • Div 10 Option - Compact, Std Ch., Hvy. Sus., Med PP, 4 PR Tires, Driver; MML (10/reg) in 1sp. turret, 2 linked MML (10/reg) front, smartlink, TC, 10 oil/smoke dischargers, 33 pts WG/WH, 43 pts sloped composite armor (16 Metal/27 Plastic): F 3/4 B 3/4 R 5/4 L 5/4 T 0/6 U 0/5; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 97.5 Pwr 1400 3699 lbs. $9,988.10

Design Notes -This is an update of an obsolete design:
Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Medium PP, 4 PR tires, driver, RL front, RL in turret, 191 pts. Armor: F50 R35 L35 B36 T15 U20; Acc. 5, HC 3, 4196 lbs., $9883
It's obsolete because of the 2sp turret, and I'm wondering if I had the right engine (I guess 4200 lbs could use a Medium PP).  The update jacked it up to div18 (which most people use as div20).  I guess it's the PR tires. Anyway, I provided a number of options, and the div10 one took the most ingenuity, given I was committed to keeping the entire weapon system intact: 3 MMLs with a smartlink and targeting computer.

It's the Div10 design process that keeps me committed to using the Excel designer (from the fine folks at MADHAT) - the ability to manipulate the armor numbers, and balance this with that, is best accomplished with a spreadsheet.  The online ones don't help in the same way (let alone my 30 years ago system of filler paper and a watch calculator).

Prowler 2057 - Div10 Compact

Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Medium PP (PC/SC), 4 Solid Tires, Driver (with BA); RR (10/reg) front, bumper trigger front, 40 pts WG/WH, 9 pts LRFP CA each around PP and driver; 69 pts composite Armor (39 Metal/30 Plastic): F 8/3 B 8/3 R 11/3 L 11/3 T 0/7 U 1/11; HC 3 Acc. 5 Top 95 Pwr 1610 4438.8 lbs. $9,982.50

  • 2063 Update  - Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Medium PP (SC), 4 Solid Tires, Driver; RR (10/reg) front, SWC 10 foam dischargers linked to 4 bumper triggers (also linked to that side's weapons), 40 pts WG/WH, 10 pts std CA each around PP and driver; 66 pts composite Armor (38 Metal, 28 Plastic): F 9/2 B 9/2 R 10/2 L 10/2 T 0/7 U 1/13; HC 3 Acc. 5 Top 90 Pwr 1540 4438 lbs. $9,999.00

Design Notes -In my draft pile dated Oct 5 2010.  I realized after looking at it that it was actually an update of the veteran (near stock) Prowler:
Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus. Medium PP, driver, 4 SD tires, RR front, SD rear, (includes BA for driver); Plastic Armor: F50, R40, L40, B33, T15, U15; Acc. 5, HC 3, 4198 lbs. $9,830

This draft design, called "Amateur Night", even had the BA for the driver.  I like the update because it's something to have a SWC, dischargers and CA in a low division. The foam grenades are a cheap paint substitute (they block shots like paint, but do they coat the car?)

2057 Version 1 - Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Large PP (SC/PC), 4 Solid Tires, Driver & Gunner; 2 linked RR (10/HEAT) front, RR (10/HEAT) in turret, smartlink, ID (25/reg) back, 2 TC, HTM, 10 oil/smoke dischargers, linked to 4 bumper triggers (also linked to that side's weapons) 40 pts WG/WH, 9 pts LRFP CA each around PP, and driver; 120 pts Composite Armor (10 Metal/110 Plastic): F 2/20 B 2/20 R 3/20 L 3/20 T 15 U 15 HC 3 Acc. 5 (HTM 10) Top 92.5 (67.5) Pwr 2300, 6598.6 lbs. $24,562.50

2057 Div20 Version - Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Large PP (SC), 4 Solid Tires, Driver & Gunner; 2 linked RR (10/reg) front, RR (10/reg) in turret, smartlink, JD (10/reg) back, 8 oil/smoke dischargers, linked to 2 bumper triggers (also linked to that side's weapons) 32 pts WG/WH, 10 pts CA each around PP and driver; 159 pts plastic Armor: F 30 B 30 R 35 L 35 T 14 U 15; HC 3 Acc. 5 Top 90 Pwr 2200, 6598 lbs. $19,850.00

Design Notes -The original, which is pretty good, is: Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 SD tires, 2 linked RR front, RR with 2 mag in turret, HDID back, 187 pts. Armor; F45 R35 L35 B40 T17 U15; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs. $19,940

I don't know how to get an improved version under 20.  The other options are actually cars from my draft pile and I noticed that they had the same basic weapon system (3 RRs in a Luxury, Solids etc).  So I felt I should put 'em all together.  So much so that originally version 1 had sloped armor but I dropped that so I could put an ID in and keep the weapon system intact.

Just a note, for some reason I think of RRs matching up with Ice Droppers; same way I link VMG and FOJs.  Dunno why.

Also, there seems something just solid and comforting from a bunch of RR.  Could be nostalgia.

Albiorix - Div50 Cycle (Galaxy)

Heavy Cycle (C/A frame), Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Design Notes - From my draft pile, dated Oct 11, 2009.  A Div50 cycle?  Whatever.  But I will say that C/A frames seem to be perfectly fine for cycles, since they'll get trashed with rams/rolls anyway.

Name Notes - Albiorix is a moon of Saturn, part of the "Gallic group".  Albiorix (which sounds like a Asterix character) is, according to the Wiki:
It was named in August 2003 for Albiorix, "a Gallic giant who was considered to be the king of the world." The name is known from an inscription found near the French town of Sablet which identifies him with the Roman god Mars (an interpretatio romana).
