Radon - Div5 Sedan

Type: Sedan, Chassis: Light, Suspension: Improved, Engine: Medium Electric (SC) (Pwr 1540, 8 dp), Tires: 2 HD tires front, 2 Std. tires rear (6/4dp), Crew: Driver (no equip) & Gunner (no equip), Weaponry 4 Light Rockets front (reg) (1D burst), FT (10/reg) back (1D, fire mod:4/3), JD (10/reg) right & left, Weighted Accessories: nil, Unwgt. Acces.: nil, Dischargers: nil, Wheel Armor: nil, Component Armor nil, Cargo: 0 sp, 225 lbs.; Vehicle Armor: 15 pts sloped Metal: F(4) B(3) R(3) L(3) T(1) U(1); HC: 2, Acc. 5,  Top Speed 92.5, DM: 1, Hit Mod: -1, Weight: 4365lbs. Max 4590, Cost: $4,952.50
  • Option 1 - Remove rockets, add 2 more JD, all 4 linked, tires now all HD, add 1 pt armor, 4580 lbs, $4952.00
Design Notes - Now comes the inevitable Div5 for sedan attempt. I do think that the option is a bit better than the original, if anything for having better tires, but some people have front firing weapons. For a div5, this could survive a bit, especially with a torrent of junk out of the rear, and a decent weapon (flamethrower).

Name Notes - When I think of Radon, I think of poison in backyards. From the Wiki:
Radon is a chemical element with the symbol Rn and atomic number 86. It is a radioactive, colorless, odorless, tasteless noble gas.

Metis 2067 - Div5 Compact (Galaxy)

Type: Compact, Chassis: Standard, Suspension: Heavy, Engine: Medium Electric (no mods) (Pwr 1400, 8dp), Tires: 4 Heavy Duty (6 dp), Crew: Driver (no equip) Weaponry SS (10/reg) & SD (10/reg) linked back, Weighted Accessories: nil Unwgt. Acces.: nil, [1 total links], Dischargers: none; Wheel Armor: 20 total = 2x9 pt WG rear, 2x1 pt WH front, Component Armor 10 pts for (a) PP (FP, 4 sp), (b) Driver (reg, 2 sp), Cargo: 0 sp, 2 lbs.; Vehicle Armor: 41 pts Composite (33 Metal/8 Plastic): F(8/0) B(7/0) R(8/0) L(8/0) T(1/4) U(1/4); HC: 3, Acc. 5 Top Speed 97.5, DM: 2/3, Hit Mod: -1, Weight: 3698 lbs. Max 3700, Cost: $4,976.00

  • Option 1 - replace SS & SD with FOJ (15 shots), add 3 pts MET armor, $4999.00
Design Notes I'm trying to make more Div5 cars. This was to make a pure dropped weapon car with decent armor and that meant a compact. Once I had that size, I hoped I could put in component armor. The option may actually be better than the original: a flaming oil jet in a Div5 fight?!

Name Notes - From the Wiki: "Metis, also known as Jupiter XVI, is the innermost moon of Jupiter. It was discovered in 1979 in images taken by Voyager 1, and was named in 1983 after the first wife of Zeus, Metis."

Design Notes - This was a design  challenge, and (yugh) it's not something I would use.

Name Notes - From the Wiki: "Anthe (/ˈænθiː/ AN-thee;[b] Greek: Άνθη) is a very small natural satellite of Saturn lying between the orbits of Mimas and Enceladus. It is also known as Saturn XLIX; its provisional designation was S/2007 S 4. It is named after one of the Alkyonides; the name means flowery. It is the sixtieth confirmed moon of Saturn."

The Alkyonides are (also from the Wiki): "The Alkyonides (/ælkiːˈɒnɪdiːz/; Ancient Greek: Ἀλκυονίδες) were, in Greek mythology, the seven daughters of Alcyoneus. When their father was slain by Heracles, they threw themselves into the sea, and were transformed into halcyons (kingfishers) by Amphitrite. They were Alkippe, Anthe, Asteria, Chthonia, Drimo, Methone, Pallene and Phthonia or Phosthonia."

Max 2760, Cost: $9,653.00

Design Notes -This was in my archive folder dated Nov 20, 2012 under the name "Pocket Rocket."  I kept it from the blog because I guess I wanted to reduce it to Div5.  But I've actually made other Div5 Subcompact with RLs: Weywot and the Nunam option.  As it stands, the primary entry has to be in my 3Q Division ($7500 and under).

Jan 3, 2014 Update: I noticed the Div5 version was unchanged from the original.  Oops.  While re-entering the data, I realized I could make this Div5 by dropping a point in suspension etc., hence Option 2.

Name Notes - Hydra is a moon of Pluto.  How did I not use this name yet?  Considering it's the trade name of the standard anti-tank rocket of the US military.  About the moon: "Hydra is the outermost known natural satellite of Pluto. It was discovered along with Nix in June 2005,  ... The name is that of the Hydra, the nine-headed serpent which battled Hercules in Greco-Roman mythology. The nine heads of Hydra are a reference to Pluto's tenure as the ninth planet; its initial, H, refers to the Hubble Telescope which discovered Hydra"

Nunam - Div5 Subcompact (Galaxy)

Subcompact, Heavy Chassis, Light Suspension, Small PP (PC) (5dp), 4 HD Tires (6dp), Driver (no equip), FT (10/reg) front, HRSWC, 27 pts Plastic Armor: F 6 B 5 R 7 L 7 T 1 U 1; HC: 2, Acc. 5, Top Speed 90, Pwr 840, 2445 lbs. (max 2530), $4,997.00
  • RL Option - Subcompact, Standard Chassis, Light Suspension, Small PP (5dp), 4 Standard Tires (4dp), Driver (no equip), RL (8/reg) front, HRSWC, 20 pts Plastic Armor: F 4 B 4 R 5 L 5 T 1 U 1; HC: 2, Acc. 5, Top Speed 95, Pwr 800, 2110 lbs. (max 2300), $5,000.00

Design Notes - As I said here with Weywot, this started as a project to get a HRSWC into a div5 car.  I started with a RL and that forced a design with almost has the bare minimum of components and still be called a car.  Then I realized that the FT is cheaper, and a FT plus HRSWC is pretty effective, I'd imagine.  The FT design was so much better that I made it the primary.  Both still lack armor for my confidence though.

Subcompacts' higher HC allows me to save some money with a light suspension, and every dollar counts in this division.

Name Notes -From the Wiki: "79360 Sila–Nunam (IAU name: 79360 Sila–Nunam) is a double classical Kuiper belt object (cubewano) with components of almost equal size, orbiting beyond Neptune in the Solar System. The name of the system is the combined names of the two bodies, Sila and Nunam."

Weywot - Div5 Compact (Galaxy)

Compact, Light Chassis, Improved Suspension, Medium PP (8dp), 4 HD Tires (6dp), Driver (no equip), RL (10/reg) front, JD (10/reg) rear, SWC, 46 pts sloped Composite Armor (15 Metal/31 Plastic): F 4/7 B 3/8 R 3/8 L 3/8 T 1/0 U 1/0; HC: 2, Acc. 5, Top Speed 105, Pwr 1400, 3321 lbs. (max 3300), $4,999.55

Design Notes -This started as an idea to get a HRSWC in a Div5 vehicle, and while I started as a compact and I found quickly that it would be impossible with that body; it can be done with a subcompact though, which I will upload next.  This car is pretty functional, though, especially with the metal armor (which can help against flamethrowers).

Name Notes - Weywot is a moon for Quaoar.  According to the Wiki: "Weywot ....  is the only known moon of the trans-Neptunian object Quaoar. Its discovery by Michael E. Brown was reported in IAUC 8812 on 22 February 2007.... Brown left the choice of a name up to the Tongva (whose creator god Quaoar had been named after), who chose the sky god Weywot, son of Quaoar."

Quaoar - Div5 Compact (Galaxy)

Compact, Light Chassis, Improved Suspension, Medium PP (8dp), 4 HD Tires (6dp), Driver (no equip), ATG (9/reg) front, 0 total links, no cargo space, 15 pts sloped Composite Armor (10 Metal/5 Plastic): F 2/0 B 2/0 R 3/0 L 3/0 T 0/1 U 0/4; HC: 2, Acc. 5, Top Speed 105, Pwr 1400, 3330 lbs. (max 3300), $4,999.00

  • Plastic Option - Compact, Light Chassis, Light Suspension, Medium PP (8dp), 4 HD Tires (6dp), Driver (no equip), ATG (9/reg) front, 55 pts sloped Plastic Armor F 12 B 11 R 14 L 14 T 2 U 2; HC: 1, Acc. 5, Top Speed 105, Pwr 1400, 3330 lbs. (max 3300), $4,956.00

  • SWC Option - Compact, Light Chassis, Light Suspension, Medium PP (8dp), 2 HD Tires (6dp) front, 2 Standard Tires (4dp) rear, Driver (no equip), ATG (9/reg) front, SWC, 0 total links, no cargo space, 15 pts sloped Composite Armor (10 Metal/5 Plastic): F 2/0 B 2/0 R 3/0 L 3/0 T 0/1 U 0/4; HC: 1, Acc. 5, Top Speed 105, Pwr 1400, 3330 lbs. (max 3300), $4,999.00

  • SWC Plastic Option - Compact, Light Chassis, Light Suspension, Medium PP (8dp), 4 Standard Tires (4dp), Driver (no equip), ATG (9/reg) front, JD (10/reg) rear, SWC, 36 pts Plastic Armor F 8 B 8 R 9 L 9 T 1 U 1; HC: 1, Acc. 5, Top Speed 105, Pwr 1400, 3301 lbs. (max 3300), $4,988.00

Design Notes - This started as a simple idea: a div5 with an anti-tank gun.  Not saying I'd drive this, but I feel I should make more div5s.  I made the plastic armor versions because I don't know if 2 pts of metal armor are worth anything.  To get the SWC, I needed to sacrifice a lot.

Name Notes -According to the Wiki: "50000 Quaoar ("Kwawar") is a rocky trans-Neptunian object in the Kuiper belt with one known moon. It is probably a dwarf planet. ... discovered on June 4, 2002 .... Quaoar is named for the Tongva creator god, following International Astronomical Union naming conventions for non-resonant Kuiper belt objects. The Tongva are the native people of the area around Los Angeles, where the discovery of Quaoar was made. Brown et al. had picked the name with the more intuitive spelling Kwawar, but the preferred spelling among the Tongva was Qua-o-ar."

(17 lbs to max capacity of 3330, top 105), $4,992.90

  • Div 5 RR/Defense Option  - Compact, Light Chassis., Heavy. Sus., Medium PP, 4 HD Tires, Driver (no equip); RR (10/reg) front, JD (10/reg) back, 10 pts CA around and driver, 20 pts composite Armor (16 Metal/4 Plastic): F 4/0 B 4/0 R 4/0 L 4/0 T 0/2 U 0/2; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 105, Pwr 1400, 3329 lbs, $4,892.00

  • Div 10 Option 1 - Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Medium PP, 4 PR Tires, Driver (no equip); RL (10/reg), HRSWC, 4 oil dischargers (FBRL) 6 smoke dischargers (2T, 2U, 1R 1L); 39 pts WG/WH, 9 pts LRFP CA around driver, 80 pts sloped composite Armor (32 Metal/48 Plastic): F 8/5 B 8/5 R 8/5 L 8/5 T 0/14 U 0/14; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 1400, 4093.6 lbs. (4200 is max weight, top 90), $9,995.40

  • Div 10 Option 2 - Compact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Medium PP, 4 PR Tires, Driver (no equip); RR (10/reg), HRSWC, 4 oil dischargers (FBRL) 6 foam dischargers (2T, 2U, 1R 1L); 39 pts WG/WH, 10 pts CA around driver, 64 pts sloped composite Armor (32 Metal/48 Plastic): F 8/1 B 8/1 R 8/1 L 8/1 T 0/14 U 0/14; HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 1400, 4098 lbs. (4200 is max weight, top 90), $9,991.60

Design Notes -This was in my draft pile dated Oct 8, 2010 and temp named "metal div5" which gives the 'high concept' behind the design.  In the Div5 options, I think it's probably better to have an RR than a RL with a I also felt committed to using the HRSWC on the Div10 versions, even at the expense of armor; I need to test the efficacy of that.

Name Notes -Thrymr is a moon of Saturn discovered in 2000, one of the Norse group, named after the King of the Frost Giants. Originally the moon was named Thrym, which I know from the two sources below, so that's what I'm using:

From Dungeons & Dragons:

and to a lesser extent, from Marvel pic from here.

Tarqeq - Div15, Div5 Subcompact (Galaxy)

Subcompact (Carbon-Aluminum Frame), Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 Radial-Solid Tires, Driver (in BA); VMG (20/reg) front, 8 foam dischargers, 2 smoke/oil dischargers, 40 pts WG/WH, 116 pts Plastic Armor: F 25 B 25 R 22 L 22 T 10 U 12 HC 5, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 920, 2760 lbs., $14,976.00
  • Economy Option - Subcompact, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 PR Tires, Driver; VMG (10/reg) front, 8 foam dischargers, 2 smoke/oil dischargers, 40 pts WG/WH, 70 pts Plastic Armor: F 15 B 15 R 15 L 30 T 7 U 3 HC 4, Acc. 5, Top 90, Pwr 920, 2760 lbs., $6,220.00

  • Div5 Option - Subcompact, Heavy Ch., Imp. Sus., Small PP (PC & SC), 4 HD Tires, Driver; VMG (10/reg) front, 56 pts Composite Armor (2 Metal/54 Plastic): F 2/10 BRL 0/10 TU 0/7  HC 3, Acc. 5, Top 95, Pwr 920, 2530 lbs., $4,999.00

Design Notes - Ya know, I like the Div5 the best.  This was in my draft box dated Sept 5, 2010.  I think it was a design experiment for a subcompact with a VMG.  Vans like subcompacts tempt you to use C/A but it's best to resist. I wonder if we should redo the rules on subs like I want for vans (because this is a sign of how flawed the rules are on this).

One idea, I'm wondering if we should allow cycle engines for subcompacts?

Name Notes - Tarqeq is a moon of Saturn, named after an Inuit moon god.  Well, at least it's a moon, eh Tarqeq?

Kerberos - Div5 Subcompact (Galaxy)

Subcompact, Hvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Small PP (SC), 2 HD tires front, 2 Std tires rear, Driver; VMG (9/reg) front, 2x2pt WG rear, 63 pts Plastic Armor: F14 B14 R10 L10 T8 U7 HC 4, Acc. 5, Top 92.5, Pwr 880, 2516 lbs., $4,998

  • Option- Improved suspension, 4 HD tires, 65 pts armor, no WG; HC 3, Acc 5, Pwr 880, Top 90, 2530 lbs, $4,930

Design Notes - This was an attempt to make a div5 with a Vulcan.

Name Notes - One of Pluto's moons, named here in 2013!

Superfly - Div5 Compact

Compact, Std. Chassis, Hvy Sus., 4 HD Tires, Medium PP, Driver; 4 LR front, FT (10/reg) back or right, 119 pts plastic armor F29 B30 R25 L25 T5 U5; Acc 5, Top 100, HC 3, 3624 lbs, $4,997

  • Note - As usual, move the weaponry and armor around based on the needs of the track
  • Option 1 - Switch LR to 2 HR, remove 8 pts armor; Top 97.5, 3676 lbs. $4,993
  • Option 2 - Switch LR to 2 linked MR, only remove 3 pts armor, 3606 lbs, $4,998

Design Notes - Not a bad design. In general, when dealing with the ends of the price spectrum (Div5/Unlimited) you need to exploit the rule asymmetries. Some weapons are heavier than they are expensive (rockets, flamethrowers) which fit the lower divisions. The FT is especially good at the lower level because of its sick accuracy and it's flammable fun. Get close and fry 'em.

Bantam - Div5 Compact

Compact, Lt. Chassis, Hvy. Sus., 4 HD tires, Medium PP, driver, RL front, 2 linked JD back; 86 pts plastic armor F20 B20 R18 L18 T5 U5, Acc. 5, Top 105, HC3, 3326lbs, $4,938.

  • Option 1 - Replace RL with 1 MG (10/incendiary), add another JD (linked R,L,B), remove 8 pts armor, 3328 lbs, $4,909
  • Option 2 - Like #1, but no extra JD, 13 shots in MG, only remove 6 pts armor, 3222.5 lbs, $4,997.50
  • Option 3 - Like #2, MG with 10 shots HD ammo, 79 pts armor, 3234 lbs, $4,997

Design Notes - Compacts are the best for Div5, no? Get more armor and space than the execrable subcompacts. Then again, this design is so simple that I'm sure it's the most common compact div5 matrix. Eh, whatever. Maybe not; I prefer higher HC, so others may lower suspension and use the money for Yosemite Sam mudflaps, or something.

I recommend having a Driver-1, Gunner-2 in this (it's a rule loophole, Driver 2 adds 1 HC, Gunner 2 adds 1 to hit; Improved Suspension is $200 cheaper than Heavy but a SWC is $500).

Welter - Div5 Midsized

Midsized, Light Chassis, Imp. Sus., 4 HD tires, Medium PP, driver & gunner, MML front, 2 linked HR right, 2 linked JD rear; 60 pts plastic armor (F12 B12 R15 L15 T3 U3), Acc. 5, Top 95, HC 2, 3815 lbs, $4990.

Design Notes - Now we're talking. As opposed to the previous 2 div5s (Boxer and Slapjack, Luxury & Sedan respectively), Midsized and under start making sense. Get a decent gunner in and the MML hits like an MG and can tear off metal armor from sneaky duelists. Those other designs were novelties, this sucker can win. Armor is heavier on the Welter than on any subcompact, and the linked HRs will eliminate any remaining opposition.

Slapjack - Div5 Sedan

Sedan, Light Chassis, Light Suspension, 4 HD tires, Medium PP+SC, driver & gunner, 4 HR front, 2 HR right, 2 HR left, 52 pts armor (F10 B10 R14 L14, T2, U2); Acc. 5, Top 90, HC 1, 4128 lbs, $4996

Option 1 - Remove 1 HR front, add JD rear and 8 pts armor, 4225 lbs, $4990

Design Notes - This is not only part of the new endeavor to create a fleet of div5 cars (see Boxer here), but this is now my first Sedan. I don't know when Sedans were introduced, but I didn't have 'em 20 years ago, and that's when I first wet my design whistle. But if I'm going to make sucky cars, why not go whole hog?

The Slapjack is basically a toned down Boxer with better tires and no Junk defense (improved with the first option).

Boxer - Div 5 Luxury

Luxury, Light Chassis, Light Sus., 4 Std. tires, Medium PP+SC, driver & gunner, 4 HR front, 2 HR right, 2 HR left, 2 JD back, 48 pts armor (F10 B9 R13 L13, T1, U2); Acc. 5, Top 90, HC 1, 4450 lbs, $5000 [Max weight for engine 4620]

Design Notes - It's been a while since I added a new design (my game-playing goes in weird waves), and looking through my blog I noticed that I didn't have a single Division 5 design! So I'm endeavoring to post at least 1 design for each possible body style. Not that all these cars will be the best choice for a Div5 duel - the Boxer as case in point. If I've learned one thing from battle, it's that HC is worth more than any single component/attribute. More than tires, weaponry, or armor. A tire shot, for example, is just another way of testing Handling Class (same with oil slicks, etc). So in general I want to stay away from Light Suspension.

Also, this car is exactly 5000 smackers. If your referee allows only $4999.99 then you're out of luck. I used the cheapest tires, armor, weapons, and still only made it under the wire.
