Titus 2037 - Div35 Camper (Imperial, Obsolete)

2065 Update here.

Camper, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 PR tires rear 2 PRR front, 2 linked AC front, turreted RL with mag., bumper trigger, (7 cargo spaces, 3 lb), 138 pts armor: F40 (ram), R24 L24 B25 T10 U15; Acc. 5, HC 3, 7797 lbs. $32,190

Design Notes: With such forward firepower, why have a un-aimed Rocket launcher? Whatever. Also, pretty lightly armored. It's obsolete because of the tire configuration but I don't think I'll be updating this.

Name Notes:The original name was "Totric" - based on the 4 random consonant model which I can see on the design sheet itself: T T R C.  In the 2057 write-up, I changed the name to the imperial system (first one?): Titus. According to the Wiki:
"Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus; (30 December 39 – 13 September 81) was Roman Emperor from 79 to 81. A member of the Flavian dynasty, Titus succeeded his father Vespasian upon his death, thus becoming the first Roman Emperor to come to the throne after his own father."

Tiberius 2037 - Div30 Camper (Imperial)

Pickup with Camper Shell, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 6 PR-Radials, Laser in turret, ATG front, HDID rear, Targ. Comp., 4 10 pt WG rear WH front; 155 pts armor: F35, R30, L30, B30, T15, U15; Acc 5, HC 3, 7800 lbs., $28,500

Design Notes: Not a crazy design but a little under-armored for Div30 (and too many big weapons). One option is to make the ATG into second Laser, HDID to ID, and add a gunner.

Note: The "Imperial Motors" line was another naming device/cheat. I thought it would be cool (and it is, mostly) to name cars after Roman Emporers.

[Nov 10, 2013 Update: the original name, no kidding, was: "Hiddledidoo." Now you see why I went with the Imperial line.  Also this was designed as a Pickup with Camper Shell - as we needed to do back in the day.  Also, I would have "4 WG" in my design sheet to designate 40 pts of Wheelguard armor.]

Ganymede 2037 - Div60 Camper (Galaxy, Combat, Obsolete)

Updated here.
Camper, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 SD tires rear, 2 PRR front, active suspension, AC with mag in turret, 2 GG (R, L), MG with HD ammo rear, bumper triggers on all 4 sides, panic blast link to 4 weapons, 6 smoke dischargers, IBA for driver, Hi-res computer, 4 10 pt WG; 122 pts. FP armor: F40, R30, L30, B30, T6, U20 {armor # are off, above is 156}; Acc. 5, HC 3, 7797 lbs., $59,280
  • Combat record: Appears to have been in combat; front armor all chewed up.
Design Notes: Gads - 4 weapons and no gunner! Gauss guns just hangin' out the sides. If I hadn't been stupid enough to take this into combat, I'd have just crumpled up the sheet; but combat records are like watching game films.

This is obsolete because we now need radials on all 4 wheels (and there are more than just PR-radials). A better design would be to remove mag from AC and MG, add gunner; move GG front with link, and add another computer.

Updated Nov 15, 2013

Name Notes: Ganymede is "a satellite of Jupiter and the largest moon in the Solar System. It is the seventh moon and third Galilean satellite outward from Jupiter."

Burrito 2037 - RPG OR Pickup

Pickup, Xhvy Ch., OR sus., Super PP, 6 OR solids, driver & passenger; AC front, ramplate, active suspension, spoiler & airdam, IFE, targ computer; 170 pts FP armor: F50 (ram), R30 L30 B30 T11 U20; 11 cargo spaces, 525 lbs.capacity, Acc. 5, HC 2 (3 OR); 7225 lbs. unloaded (max 7800), $37,430

Design Notes: I think I designed this for a particular scenario but I don't see any markings on the car-sheet. Not sure if all this stuff can be put in one car anymore (active sus., spoiler, OR sus.)

Tinfoil Tank 2037 - Div25 Pickup (Obsolete)

Pickup, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Super PP, driver, 6 SD tires, VMG with 3 mags in turret, ramplate, 5 smoke dischargers (2R 2L 1B - NO WEIGHT, OBSOLETE), SWC, 243 Armor: F60 (ram), R50 L50 B40 U20 T23; Acc. 5, HC 2, 7798 lbs., $23,676
  • Option 1 - FP armor, $31,002
  • Option 2 - Add 4 WG, take off 15 pts armor; 7793 lbs., $23,746

Design Notes: Nobody needs 80 shots in a duel. That's a waste of space and weight.

Bonodell - Div60 (65) Pickup

Updated Here.
Pickup, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 6 SD tires, 2 linked GG front, cyberlink, no-paint windshield, 281 pts. FP armor: F70, R60, L60, B50, T20, U21; Acc. 5, HC 2; 7791 lbs., $59,564

Bonodell 2 Option - remove 33 pts. Armor, add 60 pt. ramplate & bumper trigger, F60 L50 R50 B50 T19 U19, driver with IBA, $62,122

Combat Record 1 (Bonodell 1): shots: 2 each; 20 hits to front, 18 top, 6 left, 4 right, 18 bottom; TIRES: FL 12 hits, ML (Middle Left) 4, BL 8,  FR 10 hits, MR 6, BR 6; PP 3 hits, Driver 3 hits (ooooh)

Combat Record 2 (Bonodell 2): 50 hits to front, 3 shots each for GG

Design Notes - Finally, the pickups. My body of choice for unlimited duels, and my combination of choice are Gauss Guns with a cyberlink. It has the highest space/weight/damage ratio, price is no object, and I need armor & handling more than weponry in that price class. There are a number of modernized variations.

Vagabond 2037 - RPG (15) Station Wagon

Station Wagon, Xhvy Ch., Hvy. Sus., Super PP, driver & 3 passenger, 4 PR-Radial Tires, RR front, SS rear, SWC, 4 10 pt. WG, 7 space cargo (205 lbs.), 207 pts. Armor: F50 R40 L40 B40 T17 U20, Acc. 5, HC 3, 6395 lbs. (6600 max), $14,990

  • Option - Put RR in a turret, remove 20 pts. armor; $16,090

Design Notes: The family car of the '40s. All in all, not a bad RPG design (I'd buy one).

Hippopotamus 2037 - Div20 Station Wagon

Hippopotamus - Station Wagon, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 PRR tires, 2 linked VMG front, Paint GS with mag in turret, SWC, 4 10 pt. WG; 186 pts armor; F50 R30 L30 B40 T21 U15; Acc. 5, HC 3, 6595 lbs., $19,220

Design Notes: Another decent use of the small space, and it looks like its just another version of 'Failsafe' - which shows the kind of design limitations we got with the wagons. I guess I should combine them (and if so, the hippo wins because who doesn't like hippos?)

P.S. His driver:

[Nov 10, 2013 Update: The original name for this car, as seen in the scan above, was "Hipponosorus"]

Megashot 2037 - Div18 Station Wagon

Station Wagon, Xhvy. Ch., Hvy. Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 SD tires, 2 linked ATG front, 2 linked HR on platform; targ. comp.; 155 Armor: F40 R30 L30 B30 U20 T5; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs., $17,450

Option - remove platform & rockets, switch to SWC, add 30 pts. armor, $17,050

Design Notes: Nose heavy and not versatile enough for Div18, I'd say. It's always nice to imagine what would happen if you connect with both ATGs at once, though.

Name Notes:  Original name was "Malanian." I assume I used this because my brother, as a kid, wrote a short sci-fi story for 3rd grade where the hero's spaceship was named the "Malanian Cheeseway" - a combo blurb for Millenium Falcon and Milky Way Galaxy.

Failsafe 2037 - Div20 Station Wagon

Station Wagon, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver; 2 linked VMG front, Tear GS with mag in 1 sp. turret, SWC; (7 cargo spaces, 5 lbs), 200 pts Armor: F40 R40 L40 B40 T20 U20; Acc. 5, HC 3, 6595 lbs., $19,300

Design notes: This fits one part of my above rant, it's a combat-duel vehicle that allowed the wagon's space limit restrict over-indulgence. I like gas-streamers in turrets but tear-gas is pretty useless. And the cargo line: "7 cargo spaces, 5 lbs" - good for a big piece of cardboard?

I see from the design sheet that it basically started with 200 pts of armor and I guess I wanted to see what else would fit in.

Name notes: The original name, as seen in the scan above, is: "Yahiealoal." I have no idea what the heck I was thniking. Gadzooks.

Ultima 2037 - RPG Station Wagon

Station Wagon, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 7 passengers, 4 PR tires, 2 linked RL front, VMG in turret, Hi-Res comp., 10 pt. WG back; 7 Cargo Spaces = 1050 lbs. 107 pts. Armor: F25 R20 L20 B20 T15 U7; Acc. 5, HC 3; 5500 lbs., $19,890.

  • Ultima II - remove VMG, WG & WH; add Laser + 3 pts. armor; $25,000
  • Ultima III - remove 1 passenger, add Ramplate + 2 pts. armor, 5505 lbs. $20,680
  • Ultima IV - II & III together, 5505 lbs., $25,790
  • Ultima V - FP armor on IV; $29,080

Design notes - Even for an RPG entry, this is pretty cruddy. Under-armored. One possible tweak is to add an IFE, replace VMG with RL, add 2 TL & LGL to all rockets and then add more armor.

Name notes - Original name was "Ultimo."  I changed it to Ultima, and the options, to fit the great game Ultima. The names of the original updates were, in order, Ultimo II, Ultimo III, Ultimo Deluxe, Super Ultimo Deluxe, Super Macho Goop Ultimo.

Rant - The Light Laser

There was a discussion - which I may join soon - on the Steve Jackson Car Wars grouplist about what was the most useless weapon/accessory. Nobody said "Light Laser" and it's a testimony to just *how* useless it is that it's not even on the ordinary players' radar. Lordy.

It's still available on MADHAT so I know that it hasn't been jettisoned yet. Why does it still exist. I say 'still' because at one time it used to be the best 1 space weapon available. For the same weight as an MG, double the cost, but with unlimited ammo (in a 30 second duel), and the best to hit around. And they could start fires, and Laser-Guidance was introduced then it became the cheapest way to home your rockets in.

Then the fire rules changed, the targeting laser was introduced, and all the fancy ammo for the MG made it a better choice. The Light Laser doesn't need to exist.

Proposed rule changes to save the Light Laser
  • A regular Laser gives you 3d for 2 spaces, Heavy Laser 4d for 3. Why is a LL only 1 die? Make it 1d+3 damage and it's back in the saddle as the best 1 spacer.
  • and/or Make the to-hit 5
  • and/or Make the LL automatically fire twice a round (lasers are so fast)
  • and/or Reduce the effectiveness of a targeting laser (e.g. a max number of rockets per TL)

Note that I think these rule changes are necessary - because new equipment should not make the old equipment *useless.* It's a sad state of any runaway RPG when the new ideas run faster than the playtesting (but I'll save that for even another rant).
  • Saturn 2037 - Div20 Station Wagon (Galaxy)

    Station Wagon, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 SD tires, VMG in turret, LL front; 3 SD (10/reg) (B, R, L) linked; SWC to VMG; 4 10 pt WG, 222 pts Armor: F60 R40 L40 B40 T19 U23; Acc. 5, HC 2; 6600 lbs., $19,890

    Saturn 25 - take out LL & 1 SD, install Laser and switch with Vulcan; armor: F50 R35 L35 B40 T19 U20; 6595 lbs., $24,900

Design Notes: See my rant about Station Wagons. This is the first of my wagons and it's dated not only because I don't design wagons for duels anymore, but who needs Light Lasers anymore (which requires another rant). And why use smoke dischargers when sporting any laser? That's just not thinkin' (2013 Updfate: I see I misread the sheet and SD isn't a smoke discharger but a Spikedropper!)

    [Updated Nov 12, 2013]

Rant about Station Wagons & Cargo spaces

I'm now up to my list of station wagons and maybe I lack understanding of car construction, or advanced game dynamics, but 'required cargo spaces' have always bothered me. It's especially annoying with pickups - massive chassis and no spaces! - but the station wagon/luxury case shows the inner absurdity.

I've heard that rules doctors have recently allowed cargo space to be used to carry passengers. I remember when we could put extra magazines there. We got rid of that rules presumably because that made cargo space useful and rational to have in a duelling vehicle. As it stands, station wagons are almost by definition for scenario use only and aren't practical in arena duels. Why use a wagon and not a luxury (unless you were like me 20 years ago and couldn't help but fill every available car space with a weapon; the station wagon then becomes like stomach stapling - if you can't control yourself the physical restriction will do it for you).

Luxs and Wagons are the same car - in armor weight and they even share tires - except that wagons must have 7 cargo spaces. Yet, if you wanted, you can make 7 spaces of cargo in a luxury... does that make the luxury *into* a wagon or just a Lincoln Town Car with a big trunk?

I think that since we can create cargo spaces in any car, and that Station Wagons are basically converted Luxuries, we should change the cargo rules to make those spaces more worthwhile.

    Rule-Change Proposals:
    1. There should be a price and even a weight cost to convert any part of a standard car into cargo except for 1 or 2 spaces which can presumably be the 'trunk.' 1 space for subcompact to midsize, 2 for sedan & luxury.

    2. Either that or a designated cargo space adds to chassis strength (which can explain the pickup), e.g. the first 50 lbs. in each cargo space is not considered in chassis strength.

    3. Any standard car (sub, comp, mid, sedan, lux) can be made into a 'hatchback' and have the cargo carrying bonuses. These cars have existed for decades anyway - how could we not have a 2057 Car Wars version of the Gremlin?!

    Pickups - special case:

Pickups. Sweet pickups. We've already tried to fix the space rule, first by creating the camper shell (remember, I'm old school, I remember that being added in 1985) and then ditching that for the Camper body style. We get more room for weapons but then get the horrible Van armor. Then Uncle Al's introduced extended cabs. Fine. But I have no idea why we can have a car body built to withstand 7800 lbs but can't build one that can use every one of it's spaces? It's not like the station wagon which has a regular body (luxury) that uses every space with the same weight. Why can't there be a pickup with every space for weapons, etc?

Two reasons can be given: (1) fiction consistancy and (2) Game balance. The consistancy is a crock, though, because every person who plays Car Wars wants there to be a car that can hold 7800 lbs and a full 24 spaces. And if *we* want that why wouldn't the car-makers of 2050 do that? It could be that cargo space distributes weight differently - using my assumption above. Fine. Then apply my invented rules.

Game balance is the more probable argument, but that can be re-balanced.

    Rule-Change Proposals, Pickups:

    1. Apply 1-3 above to pickups and that will satisfy 'fiction consistantly'

    4. Introduce a new body - consistant with rule 3 - that would be the pickup without any cargo space. This can be a "SUV" or "four-by-four." The game balance trade-off could be either, or both:

  • Handling class is reduced by 2 (so Hvy Sus. would be a HC 1)
  • SUV/4x4 requires both a driver and trucker skill to drive without penalty.

I think both rules could be excessive but I haven't play tested this idea enough. But the trade-off in Handling (which I think is a big bite) and/or to require a driver to use the arena-set 30 skill points to buy 0 in driver/trucker/gunner will balance things even more.

    Phobos 2037 - Div20 Luxury (Galaxy)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver, MG front, MD back, 2 linked HR in turret, each with 3 space rocket magazines (8 total); 5 smoke dischargers, Tar. Comp., Armor: F30 R25 L25 B20 T15 U15; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs., $18,940

Design Notes: I use this multiple-rocket design in future cars as well. I doesn't work well in multiple car arenas, but one-on-one it can be devestating. I think instead of an MG I should use ramplate.

Name Notes: This is an early design (see scan above), named after a big moon of Mars.

    Herd Furl 2037 - Div30 Luxury

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 PR tires, driver, TwL in turret, RL front (Puff Dragon), 2 linked AP-HR front, MF with mag back, CD back linked to a Radar Detector; 151 pts Armor: F30 R25 L25 B30 T26 U15; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs., $27,670

Design notes: I believe this was another concept car - using the new radar equipment (chaff?!).

Name notes:  This was originally unnamed, and the above one was chosen using the 2057 random word generator.

Orion 2037 - RPG Luxury (Galaxy)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver & 3 passengers, GG with mag in turret; AC front, ID back; Hi-res computer; LRFP armor: F30 R20 L20 B30 T10 U15; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6590 lbs. $39,100

Design notes - 3 passengers makes this an RPG. It may be able to be improved for arena combat but there are way too many weapons...

Name Notes  - Named after one of my favorite constellations.

    Tree Snack - Div60 Luxury

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 FP SD tires, driver, 2 linked Lasers front, 2 linked Lasers rear, 2 laser batteries (1 for each linked pair); Hi-Res computer, 105 pts FP Plastic armor: F25 R20 L20 B20 U15 T5; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs; $51,000

    • Option 1 - Remove batteries, add gunner, second hi-res and 5 pts. Armor; $54,200
    • Option 2 - FPLR armor (remove 10 pts.) 6595; $51,650

Design notes - would this last two seconds in the arena? Ugh. 4 Lasers, nothing in the turret *and* two heavy rockets??

    Blackberry 2037 - Div25 Luxury (Obsolete)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver & 2 gunners, VMG in turret, 2 linked VMG front, PS back; 3 targ. Comp., 132 pts Armor: F30 L25 R25 B27 T10 U15; Acc. 5, HC 3, 6595 lbs., $23,740

Design notes: Way back when, you could have 2 gunners. At least I had three weapons, eh? Light armor for div25 as well.

Name notes: The original name was "Hosuf."

    Ghoti 2037 - Div40 Luxury

    Updated here.

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver & gunner, Laser in turret, Laser front, 2 linked HR front, MD back, 2 hi-res comp. 145 pts. Plastic armor: F30 L25 R25 B30 U15 T20; Acc. 5, HC 3, $38,500

Design notes - Updated slightly for 2057; the armor is a little light, but this was a fearsome car back in the days before lasers were ticky-ruled out of effectiveness.

Name notes - {from the 2057 update}: This is the famous English is whacky word, as the Wiki says: "Ghoti is a constructed word used to illustrate irregularities in English spelling. It is a respelling of the word fish"

Actually the original name, as seen in the scan above, was "Ghoti Ghobyoulah" or "Fish Fibula."

This may have been the second car I designed, with Major Mover the first, given the naming and the nature of the art (and my handwriting, look at those upper-case Hs)

    Baud Squash - Div60 (45) Luxury

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver, GG with 2 extra mags in turret, MG front, MD & FOJ linked rear, FE, cyberlink to GG; ramplate, 2 10 pt. FP WG rear; 146 pts. FP armor: F30 (ram) R30 L30 B30 U11 T16; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs, $52,915

    • Option 1: take out FE, cyberlink, add 10 pts. Armor; make turret pop-up UM; add hi-res; $44,515

Design notes: What a waste of money. As usual, too many weapons, not enough armor. Although it's an early signal of my "cyberlink to Gauss Gun" period.

    Name notes:  Original name: "Losadur"

    • Option 1 - change armor to FP: $27,660
    • Option 2 - armor to FP, no Body Armor, tinted windshield, $27,910
Design notes: Great name, lousy car. Maybe for a looong road race it could be OK.

Name notes: An original galaxy car.

    [Updated Nov 11, 2013]
The counter I made for this back in 2007 or 2009:

Police Cruiser 2037 - RPG Luxury (Obsolete)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 2 SD tires rear, 2 PRR tires front; driver & gunner, 2 passengers, RR with 2 mags in turret, SS back (tear gas), 2 SWC, ramplate, sound system, flashing lights/siren, TG piped into (sealed) passenger compartment; 4x10 pt WG, 9 pts. reg Component armor between passengers & drivers; 168 pts. Armor: F30 (ram), L32 R32 B35 T25 U20; Acc. 5, HC 3, 6595 lbs., $17,530

Design Notes: We've all tried making this, no? Given today's technology and accessories, I think I can do better.  This is obsolete because of the PRR problem, and because component armor didn't take space.

Name Notes:  Original name, in my standard adolescent idiom, "Blakenwite."  Yeah.

Updated: Nov 6, 2013, with original scan.  Here's the original pic.

    Nosferatu 2037 - Div18 Luxury

    Updated here.

    Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver & gunner, 2 linked ATG front, MD back, 2 SWC; 150 pts armor: F30 R30 L30 B30 T15 U15; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs, $17,850
    • Option 1 - remove 10 pts armor & 1 SWC, add Cyberlink to ATG; $32,650
    • Option 2 - downgrade SD to PR, take off 4 pts armor, add ram-plate (F30) & bumper trigger: $17,170

Design Notes - A cyberlink to a ATG?! Yes, I used to be that dumb. The original had a heavy nose and needed updating.

Name Notes -  The original name was "Norfangu."  I changed it in 2057 to Nosferatu because, as I wrote with the update: "Nosferatu is the name of a still-creepy 1920s vampire film (the word seems to be the original Romanian word for vampire)."

    • "First Crusade" Option  remove HRs, add gunner + 5 pts. Armor; $19,680

    Combat record:
    • very bad in combat;
    • driver in BA;
    • 4 hits to each rear tire, 5 to each front; L breached, R 7 hits,
    • F 50 hits over breach; destroyed front weapons, PP, driver.

Design Notes - Another over-gunned car, especially in the original design ("First" was updated a year ago).  I can see from the original scan that this was made after my architectural drafting.

    Cubic Device - Div20 Luxury

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver, 2 linked VMG front, HDSS rear, 2 MD (R,L), all defenses linked; FE; 2 10 pt. WG back; 147 pts. Armor: F35 R30 L30 B30 T7 U15; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs., $19,640
    • Option 1 - remove 1 MD (move the other rear), add gunner + 5 pts armor + 2 SWC, $19,740
Design notes - I added the option recently, without doing a total upgrade. I had this thing about packing my cars to the gills with weaponry without enough people to use 'em. It's not bad by 2037 standards.

Name notes - This was originally named "Flotbot."  Yeah.

    Apollo - Div20 (25) Luxury

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, driver & gunner, 2 linked RL front, VMG in turret with mag, 180 pts Plastic armor: F40 R35 L35 B30 T20 U20; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6595 lbs., $19,550
    • Option 25 - add Hi-res computer (gunner), SWC from driver to RL & ramplate: F40 (ram) R30 L30 B30 U15 T15, $24,850
Design Notes - Another design with potential (a little heavy on offense, light on defense) and it has been upgraded for 2057.

    Charlemagne 2037 - Div20 Luxury

    2063 Update here.

    Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 SD tires, 2 linked RR front, RR with 2 mag in turret, HDID back, 187 pts. plastic armor; F 45 R 35 L 35 B 40 T 17 U 15; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs. $19,940

Design Notes: This is a nice car and I've upgraded it with the new technology.

Name Notes: The original name, as seen in the scan above, was "Phreze," which makes this an early design, as I was using stupid mispellings as my go-to naming back then.

Here is the modified counter I made for this car (I uploaded the original scan on Nov 11, 2013)

    Barbeque 22 - Div25 Luxury

    Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 SD tires, VMG in turret, 3 linked HDFOJ (B,R,L); 218 pts. Armor: F50 R40 L40 B45 T25 U18; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs., $22,310

Design notes - I updated this recently, because I like the balance (even though, yeah, its just a bigger Hyperion).

Name notes - This was originally spelled "Barbecue."  And the name refers to the massive amounts of flaming hot oil.  I wonder why I didn't put in incendiary ammo in the VMG (or an IFE?)

    Flunky 2037 - Div20 Luxury

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 2 SD tires rear, 2 PR tires front, driver & gunner, 2 linked RL front, 2 linked MG in turret, ATG back; 135 pts Plastic armor: F30 R25 L25 B30 T10 U15; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs; $19,700

Design notes - The very definition of over-gunned and under-armored. But a nice classic of design from the very early days - every item in the car comes from the original manual!

Name notes -  Original name was "Flunkie."

    Coal Dentist - Div20 Luxury

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Imp. Sus., Super PP, 4 Solid tires, driver & gunner, 2 linked RR front, VMG in turret, ID rear, FE, 2 10 pt WG rear; 142 pts. Plastic Armor: F30 R30 L30 B30 T10 U12; Acc. 5, HC 2, 6600 lbs; $19,940

Design Notes - Note the improved suspension, to save cost! As if I needed an ice-dropper over better handling. Dumb. Over weaponed, under armored and as graceful as a brick.

Name Notes -Original name, as seen in the scan above, was "Coidam" - using my second dorkiest naming process: I chose 3-4 random consonants and then I filled in the vowels.

    Elk - Div20 Luxury

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver, 4 SD tires, ATG front, 2 sp. Turret with TL & 2 linked HR; 2 3 sp. Rocket magazines; LGL to all rockets. 145 pts. Armor: F30 R30 L30 B30 T10 U15; Acc. 5, HC 3, 6595 lbs., $19,550

Design notes - Another "moose" variant (which I guess I applied whenever I put a front firing ATG?). But the "HRs in turret with LGL" trick makes the ATG not so important. This needs some modern tweaking - more armor, maybe a defense or two for the space saved by dumping the ATG.

    Equus 2037 - Div25 Luxury

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, driver & gunner, 4 SD tires, VMG in turret, MG front, HDSS + ID + MD rear (linked in all combinations). 2 Targ. Comp., 2 10 pt. WG rear; 152 pts. Plastic Armor: F30 R30 L30 B30 T20 U12; Acc. 5, HC 3; 6600 lbs., $22,740

    • Div 20 Option - remove MG, add FE, now 8 pt WG rear, 8 pt WH front, remove computers; 6598 lbs., $19,660

Design Notes - I like the multiple defenses (in general it's a proper use of the larger cars' extra space - defenses are the best space/weight ratio devices in the system). The Div20 option, which I think I did recently, is a much better car.

Name Notes -  Original name was "Equine."  Equus is a well-known play, which I've never seen, but I like any word with two "U"s.

    Callisto 2037 - Div35 Luxury (Galaxy)

Luxury, Xhvy Ch., Hvy Sus., Super PP, 4 SD tires, Driver (Body Armor), GG with mag front, 2 RL (R & L, linked!), MD with mag rear, ramplate, targ. comp., no paint windshield, 7 smoke dischargers, 4 bumper triggers, body armor for driver. 2 10 pt. WG rear, 164 pts. FP armor: F50 (ram) R30 L30 B30 U20 T4; Acc. 5, HC 3, 6600 lbs, $34,660

    Combat record:
    • I went into combat, in Div35, in this turkey?
    • Gads. Twice!
    • 4 shots from GG, 1 from L RL, 5 from MD and rear SD,
    • Tires were hit a lot: FL 8, FR 3, BL 6, BR 8 (nothing to WG);
    • Lots of hits all around but I think I won. Was I fighting a marshmallow?
Design notes: A rolling turkey. Linked RL on either side of the car? Why not a turret, eh? And then put the GG in there! I believe I rejiggered this for 2057 because, hey, a win is a win.

Note, Callisto is a moon of Jupiter. Image below from here.
